Couple stops today, some troubleshooting, some repairs, and some estimates. Our first customer had a main Pushmatic breaker tripping intermittently. I presented them with a few options, we decided on just replacing the breaker for now. Because there was an exterior disconnect we were able to shut off the power and replace. Customer also wanted us to go to their daughters house and troubleshoot a bath fan. Sadly, the motor was burnt up, and we've scheduled an appointment to replace. From the looks of it, it vents to the attic so adding venting as well.
Our next stop was troubleshoot an gfci. They were getting nuisance trips when they plugged in the new fridge. We replaced the gfci, and will continue to monitor.
Had an bath fan/heater replacement scheduled after lunch, the old one we had to use a sawzall to cut out the old brackets. After that, the new one went in pretty quick.
Then we went to Golden to end the day, writing up an estimate to add multiple exterior outlets for Xmas yard decorations, and an underground feed to get lights in a couple of sheds. Theres no shortage of work or calls around here! Still marching along!

Customer said shes lost power to almost all her outlets in her mobile home. Voltages ranged from 32v to 96v, so lost neutrals. Went around moving furniture, opening all the outlets and switches. Found this outlet with the burnt up wires, and another outlet under the trailer, where you usually hook up heat trace. She had a water leak, right into the box which corroded the wires. Cut the wires back, connected them back up. Half the outlets and lights work. One down! Still had a few outlets and lights not working, had one room with an AC plugged in and running, and all the other outlets in the room not working. Thats the outlet pictured. She had the AC plugged into a power strip, and a lamp cord extension cord. Its a winder it didnt melt more!
Never buy a mobile home, dont rent one, dont even look at them!

Service call today, customer works 5! jobs and only had sunday morning available. I can be flexible, so we came out and spent an hour troubleshooting. Ok, i spent 5 minutes troubleshooting, and 55 ish minutes trying to find the broken/loose neutral. (Had 120v hot to ground, 0v hot to neutral.) Finally tracked it down to a backstabbed outlet behind a heavy cabinet full of china.
The initial complaint was the bathroom lights and hallway lights not working. No boxes in the attic or basement, so i knew it
had to be an outlet or switch box.
And of course the outlet fell apart when i took it out of the wall.

Today we started on this rewire we've had planned for a few weeks, we got most of the outlet boxes in place with wire ran to each. Our switch boxes are mostly set, theyre moving some doors around and adding windows, so once that framing is done we can add a few more boxes. Tomorrow we start on lighting layout, the open living room/kitchen will get a large ceiling fan and can lights. Each bedroom gets ceiling fans, dual switches and closet lights.
Its nice to get to do something different every once in awhile!

Tuesday, replaced an old 100 amp pushmatic panel, with a more modern 100 amp homeline. There were a few double tapped breakers that we were able to separate into individual circuits, and now they have to add a few more circuits in the house. We will be back here at a later date, to add in some gfci protection for a few rooms that dont have grounding, and the homeowner wants updated receptacles.
We also had to add a grounding electrode to the system, it didnt have one previously.

Came in behind a handyman, living room lights not working.. added a dimmer to the hallway and wired the feed through off the load side of the switch. So the hallway had to be on for the living room to work. Had also installed the dimmers upside down, so had to flip and rewire those. Know your limits, dont be scared to get advice or help. Something like this could have damaged electronics or caused a fire with the improper splice.
Dont burn your customers house down, get professional help! Call BBS!
