I’m Stoked! Headed to Savannah, GA on Oct 2&3 for the next SESAH meeting (Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians) to present my research paper on architect John Gaisford, who immigrated from England—landed in Pittsburgh, PA , to this bustling scene, and soon thereafter to Memphis, TN, where he’d design a number of beautiful buildings across Arkansas and Tennessee. America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was booming y’all!

Work has finally begun on the OTHER Mississippi County Courthouse. Designed by John Gaisford of Memphis, this is surely one of the most beautiful and well proportioned county courthouses in Arkansas, in my opinion. Most of the project centers around replacement of electrical and mechanical systems, with some improvements in interior finish in places. Not many architects that work behind the desk all day get the opportunity to get out and help tear off and install a new wood shingle roof. Absolutely gorgeous, handmade shingles from sinker cypress by Peter Post at this wonderful log cabin in the woods in east Arkansas. This is Pete and his son, Sam.
