A house can look like almost anything: a dream home you've been drawing up for years, a cabin tucked into the mountains, a tiny home just big enough for what actually matters, or a hunting cabin the grandkids will be fighting over someday.

Different sizes. Different styles. Very different opinions on whether that accent wall should be green. But behind all of it is the same thing: a solid, well-insulated building envelope quietly doing its job while life happens inside.

That's the part we never get tired of. Whatever you're building, we'd love to be part of what goes behind it. Curious what that could look like with SIPs? Let's talk: https://ow.ly/AHj350ZJ1rO

Happy Friday, everyone. Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend.

Somebody on the East Coast at some point today will be standing in front of their open fridge for no reason other than the AC is losing. If that’s you today, we feel for you. 🥵 Heat indexes are creeping into the triple digits this week, including in places that don’t normally see this kind of heat.

And this is when you really notice how your home is built. A SIP home holds onto the temperature inside instead of constantly letting the heat outside work its way in. So when it’s pushing 100° outside, your AC doesn’t have to spend all day trying to catch up.

It’s one of those things you might not think much about when you’re choosing how to build a home and what to build it with. Until a week like this. Then you feel the difference.

We get into why SIP homes feel different in summer (and winter) here: https://ow.ly/5Qyu50ZHYvy

This is what happens when a family builds for the long haul instead of the next five years.

A family in Virginia set out to build something that matched the way they wanted to live. A more sustainable home. A more energy-efficient one. Spacious enough for two generations under one roof, with a design that gave everyone their own space while keeping the family together.

A structural insulated panel envelope made it possible. For the family living there, it means an HVAC system that works less, lower energy bills, and a home that holds temperature the way it should. Month after month, for the life of the building.

Designed and built by Taylor Hollow Construction, our dedicated SIP builder, this home is not only beautiful, but built to be handed down for generations.

The sustainability story for an ACME Panel SIP home starts before the first panel ever leaves our facility.

Our Radford, Virginia manufacturing plant runs on 406 solar panels generating 44,100 watts of power. This system has saved over 1,000,000 pounds of carbon emissions since inception. We recycle all waste foam from production. We even retrofitted our own offices with SIPs, cutting our energy use there by 60 percent. We did not just build a product around sustainability. We built our operation around it.

Then the panel goes into a home and the story continues. A SIP home uses a fraction of the energy of stick-built construction, which means lower monthly bills, a more comfortable home, and a much smaller carbon footprint for the life of the building.

Cleaner to make. Cleaner to live in. Less carbon from the day we cut the panels to the day someone hands the keys to the next generation.

This synagogue, originally built in the late 1800s, needed more than a renovation. It needed someone who understood how to bring a building like that into the future without losing what made it worth preserving.

That's what design firm Chaleff & Rogers Architects, P.C. and builder RLW4 Builders set out to do, and they brought in Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) by ACME Panel for both the walls and the roof. Our panels arrived from the factory with the circular and domed openings this building needed already precut. No cutting or reworking on site. No surprises for the crew.

The result was a dramatically more efficient building envelope than its 19th-century construction could ever deliver, with the same historic identity intact. A building that now serves its community for generations to come, with energy bills that reflect it.

We are proud this project was recognized as a 2026 SIPA Building Excellence Awards Runner-Up in the Renovations category. And proud to work alongside the team that made it possible.

SIPs are usually associated with new construction. Projects like this are a reminder of what they can do for existing buildings too.

If you are a builder thinking about adding SIPs to your practice, the most common question we hear is: how steep is the learning curve?

Honest answer: there is one. But it is manageable, and you do not have to figure it out alone. That is exactly why we are here.

Here is what changes when you build with structural insulated panels instead of stick frame. The sequencing is different. Mechanical rough-ins have to be planned before panels go up, not worked in after framing. Sealing at every joint matters. And depending on the size of the project, panel lifting equipment may need to be part of the plan.

Here is what does not change. Structural basics. Foundations. Finish work. The skills your crew already has.

Any competent framing crew can learn SIP construction. What makes the difference is having someone in your corner who has actually done it. ACME Panel provides pre-build planning support, on-site crew training if needed, and a direct line to our team throughout the job. Not a ticketing system. A person who picks up the phone.

Some buildings have a story before the first panel goes up. And we love a good story at ACME Panel.

The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center in Duffield, Virginia sits at the gateway to one of the most significant routes in American history. The Wilderness Road carried the first settlers westward through the Appalachian Mountains. This building exists to tell that story, and we were proud to be part of making it possible.

Built by Quesenberry's Construction, ACME Panel supplied structural insulated panels used throughout the structure to create an energy-efficient and durable facility. Roof panels span across wooden trusses, notched precisely around two chimneys. The building was enclosed in just a couple of days.

The center includes a museum, conference center, outdoor spaces, and a gift shop, and is now part of Natural Tunnel State Park. A good example of the range of commercial applications SIPs can serve within a single structure.

What SIPs brought to this commercial project:
→ Energy-efficient and durable building envelope throughout
→ Fast enclosure with panels arriving precut and ready to install
→ Precision cuts for complex details including chimney penetrations
→ Clean interior finish with drywall applied directly to panels

We're deep in the dog days of summer, and you know that feeling: walking in from a scorching afternoon, when the AC has been running non-stop and still can't quite keep up.

In a SIP home, that moment is different. Same temperature you left it. No hot spot by the windows. No blast of cold air racing to fix a problem the house never should have had in the first place.

It's what happens when a wall is one continuous piece of insulation instead of foam broken up by studs every 16 inches.

Curious what that actually feels like, season by season? Including the one thing most homeowners say surprised them most after moving in. (It's not the energy bill.)

A SIP home can deliver summer comfort, winter savings, and quiet, all at once. If you're planning a build, which one would make the biggest difference for your family?

This is where it starts.

Before a single panel goes up on a job site, our team in Radford, Virginia is cutting, checking, and preparing every piece to spec.

Panels arrive precut and ready to stand up. That is not an accident. It is what we do here, every day, to make sure your build goes the way it is supposed to.

A lot of SIP manufacturers will tell you the product sells itself. We think the work that happens before delivery matters just as much. Big thanks to our team who shows up every day to make sure the panels that leave this facility are ready to build something that lasts.

"Many thanks to Acme Panel for their outstanding product and service! Acme’s staff provided us with the technical and creative expertise needed to carry this project from design concept, through multiple revisions and to installation. The result is a small, elegant, energy efficient, modern dwelling for my client. Regional, responsive and with a commitment to sustainability, Acme meets all my criteria for future SIP projects." -Heidi Schweizer, Architect, Class A Contractor, LEED BD+C

When an architect with LEED credentials and a Class A contractor license tells you that, you listen. And then you get back to work making sure the next project earns the same response.

Thank you, Heidi, for trusting ACME Panel with your client's home. SIPs were a natural fit for exactly the kind of thoughtful, high-performance design you bring to every project.
