Exciting things are happening at Wake Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC!
Construction is officially underway on our latest school project, and we're thrilled to see the first signs of progress. 🚜 The site has been cleared, the ground has been leveled, and the transformation has begun.

This project includes a new middle school/high school building along with exterior improvements to the surrounding campus, creating a cohesive addition that will serve the school community for years to come.

There's nothing quite like watching a project move from vision to reality, and we're excited to share each step of the journey with you—from site work and construction to the finished project.

Good design is about creating spaces where people feel connected.

A staircase is often thought of simply as a way to move from one level to another, but thoughtful design can transform it into much more—a place to gather, pause, interact, and experience the building in a meaningful way.

For Wake Christian Academy, we designed this stair as more than a circulation element. A large window brings natural light into the space, while a built-in bench between levels creates a comfortable place for students to read, connect, or take a moment during their day. The gathering area at the base of the stair is envisioned as a flexible space where students can collaborate, socialize, and recharge.
These details may seem small, but they play an important role in shaping how students experience their learning environment.

We’re excited to continue developing this project and look forward to seeing these spaces come to life.

🏟️ World Cup Stadiums Through an Architect's Lens | Final: MetLife Stadium
The final stop in this series brings us to MetLife Stadium, host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.

What I find most interesting about this stadium isn't a dramatic architectural statement—it's how well it performs. Designed to serve two NFL teams while seamlessly adapting for concerts, international soccer, and global events, it demonstrates that great stadium architecture is as much about flexibility and functionality as it is about appearance.

As this series comes to a close, one theme has stood out: great stadiums aren't defined solely by iconic forms. They succeed when innovation, engineering, functionality, and the fan experience come together to create venues that bring people together for unforgettable experiences.

🏟️ World Cup Stadiums Through an Architect's Lens | Part 6: Estadio Azteca 🇲🇽

Few stadiums have shaped soccer history like Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Designed by architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca, Estadio Azteca opened in 1966 and remains one of soccer’s most iconic venues—soon becoming the first stadium to host matches across three FIFA World Cups.

What makes it stand out from an architectural perspective?

👀 Designed for Every Spectator
The elliptical bowl was shaped around a simple principle: every fan deserved an excellent view. By optimizing sightlines and eliminating visual obstructions, the architects created an experience designed for everyone—an approach often described as architectural democracy.

🌎 Integrated into the Landscape
Rather than rising entirely above the site, much of the stadium is embedded into the ground, reducing its visual scale while improving circulation and accessibility.

⏳ Built to Endure
More than 60 years after opening, ongoing renovations continue to modernize the venue while preserving the qualities that made it an architectural icon.

Estadio Azteca is a reminder that lasting architecture balances expression with performance—creating places that continue to serve, inspire, and connect generations of people.

⚽🏟️ World Cup Stadiums Through an Architect's Lens | Part 5: Lumen Field, Seattle
As the U.S. prepares to face Belgium in the Round of 16, we're taking a closer look at one of the most fan-focused stadiums in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Designed by Ellerbe Becket in association with Seattle-based LMN Architects, Lumen Field is proof that great stadium architecture is about more than iconic form. Its steep seating bowl and cantilevered roof were engineered to amplify crowd noise—helping Seahawks fans set the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at an outdoor stadium...twice.

Combined with weather-responsive design and seamless integration into Seattle's urban fabric, Lumen Field shows how thoughtful architecture can shape an unforgettable game-day experience.

This week we're featuring Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta—one of the most innovative venues hosting the FIFA World Cup.

Designed by HOK, the stadium stands out for:

✨ The iconic retractable "oculus" roof, inspired by Rome's Pantheon.
📺 A 360° Halo Board that transforms the fan experience.
🌱 LEED Platinum certification, with rainwater harvesting and solar energy integrated into the design.

⚽🏟️ World Cup Stadiums Through an Architect's Lens | Part 3

BC Place in Vancouver is a powerful example of how great design can give new life to an existing structure.

Originally opened in 1983 as the world's largest air-supported dome, the stadium was transformed in 2011 with the addition of the world's largest cable-supported retractable roof. Inspired by the mechanics of a bicycle wheel, the innovative system allows the venue to shift from open-air to enclosed in just minutes.

Combined with its illuminated ETFE façade, BC Place has become both an engineering landmark and a defining feature of Vancouver's skyline.

A reminder that sometimes the most sustainable solution isn't replacement—it's reinvention.

🚽 Toilets account for nearly 30% of indoor residential water use.

🚿 Standard showerheads use up to 2.5 gallons of water per minute, while WaterSense-labeled models use 2.0 gallons per minute or less—saving at least 20% without sacrificing performance.

🧺 Washing machines account typically for 15-22% of a home's indoor water use, making laundry fixtures another key opportunity for water-efficient design choices.

These numbers highlight an important reality: design decisions made today influence resource consumption for decades.

From high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to water-efficient appliances and thoughtful system selection, we have an opportunity to create buildings that are both functional and resilient.
