Exciting progress is underway at the North Carolina Museum of Art’s East Building and Museum Park renovations!

This week included a major construction milestone with the project beam signing, followed by yesterday’s site tour with members of the Building Enclosure Council Research Triangle chapter. The tour provided an opportunity to share the project’s progress and collaborate with industry partners and peers while experiencing the momentum taking shape in the field firsthand.

From significant construction milestones to meaningful conversations around building performance, preservation, and design, the project is continuing to take shape in exciting ways. We’re grateful for the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved and look forward to seeing the transformation continue in the months ahead.

It's history in the making ! We’re partnered with City of Raleigh - Government and the Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department on the renovation and expansion of the John P. "Top" Greene African American Cultural Center, which features historical displays and exhibits that interpret and honor the culture of the city's South Park and East Raleigh neighborhoods.

The project includes a detached extension with updated community spaces for indoor and outdoor events, a newly-configured hosting room in the main building, refreshed interior finishes and systems, extensive site and stormwater improvements that help create wayfinding and community context, and improvements to structure and entryways.

New indoor and outdoor spaces will also be used to tie this project into the existing South Park Heritage Trail, further increasing awareness of the area's rich history and its importance to downtown Raleigh.

We're so honored to play a part in a project that enriches the community, and plays a part in both the past and future of the fabric of Raleigh.

We had a wonderful time this week at the ribbon cutting for Lichtin Plaza, in front of the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts! The redesigned plaza serves as a welcoming and vibrant space for the downtown community, featuring new accessible ramps leading to the venue, along with a reconfigured driveway and designated drop-off lane positioned closer to the building entrance for added convenience.

We're so happy to be a part of the development in Downtown Raleigh, which will continue to benefit the businesses, residents, and visitors making our city flourish.

Last week our team had the privilege of sponsoring and attending the annual Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Triangle Welcome Home Gala, an evening dedicated to supporting families in need and celebrating the impact of community.

One of the highlights of the night was experiencing Poetry Fox, a local poet who crafts custom poems on the spot using an old typewriter. We offered him a single word: architecture.

What came back was a thoughtful reminder that the work we do goes beyond buildings. Our work creates a little bit of magic, in its own way, by shaping experiences, strengthening connections, and supporting the well-being of the communities we serve every day ✨

Last week, we attended the ribbon cutting for the Pilgrim’s Sanford Agricultural Marketplace, celebrating alongside the community. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter of growth, connection, and opportunity for the City of Sanford.

HH Architecture is grateful to have contributed to this collaborative effort in designing a facility that supports local agriculture, encourages education, and creates a lasting impact on the community.

Happy 114th Birthday, Girls Scouts!

HH Architecture Founder and CEO Kristen Hess and her daughter, both Girl Scouts, attended the Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines Annual Meeting this past weekend. It was hosted in Goldsboro, NC at the Maxwell Regional Agricultural & Convention Center – a building designed by HH Architecture! Talk about a full circle moment!

As a woman-owned business, we proudly support the Girl Scouts as they work to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who are striving to make the world a better place. Through volunteerism, donation, and everyone’s favorite cookies, HH Architecture is investing in today’s girls who are tomorrow’s leaders.

This past weekend, we joined Healing Transitions to celebrate the groundbreaking of their latest project, which will expand the organization's ability to house women who have recently completed their long-term recovery program.

Among the features and programming in this facility is a fitness area, craft room, laundry facilities, library, dedicated spaces for children, and a range of housing options.

We are honored to have played a role in the design of this expansion, and to take part in this exciting and monumental next step!

This incredible event brings together creative and talented students from architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and industrial design programs with industry professionals and firms looking to connect, recruit, and share insights into the design world. With over 100 firms participating, it’s an amazing opportunity to meet with future leaders, review portfolios, and talk about the industry’s evolving landscape.
