Every year at Urata & Sons Concrete, we show our appreciation for our crews and their families by bringing everyone together and out of the field to enjoy some good old-fashioned summer fun.
At the heart of this event are the families and children who support our hardworking employees throughout the year. There is nothing better than seeing the excitement on a child's face while winning a raffle prize, enjoying a refreshing shaved ice from Kona Ice, or spending the day making memories with friends and family.

A special thank you to Kona Ice for bringing the fun and keeping everyone cool. Their interactive team always goes above and beyond to put smiles on the faces of our families.
We would also like to recognize our talented face painter and balloon artist for creating a little magic throughout the day. The joy, laughter, and excitement they brought to the children made the event truly special and created memories our families will cherish.
And of course, we can't forget the incredible team at Interstate. Kenny and his crew prepared, cooked, and served an outstanding BBQ feast that had something for everyone. Their professionalism and dedication made the day seamless, and we are grateful for the continued partnership we share.
Events like this remind us that Urata & Sons is more than a company, it's a community. We look forward to this gathering every year as an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and spend time with the people who make our success possible.

We got outside, enjoyed the amazing Sacramento weather, and spent time celebrating the people who help make this company what it is every day.
We also recognized several birthdays this past month, along with work anniversaries for David and Logan. 🎉
It takes every department, every crew, and every individual working together to keep this operation moving forward and we’re proud to celebrate the team behind it all. 💪

🔨 Employee Highlight
Journeyman Carpenter: Jesus Castellanos
We’re proud to highlight Jesus Castellanos, a skilled Journeyman Carpenter who has been working in the construction field since 1995 and earned his Journeyman status in 2007. Over the years, Jesus has worked under many superintendents and gained valuable experience across many facets of construction before finding his passion in carpentry.
Jesus takes pride in the craft, especially when it comes to reading plans and performing layouts, which he enjoys most about the trade. His attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right are evident in the work he produces every day.
He is also proud to be a member of the Carpenters Union Local 46 (North Sacramento) and Local 713 (Hayward), organizations that support strong training, craftsmanship, and safety within the industry.
Safety is something Jesus values highly on the jobsite. He appreciates the daily tailgate safety talks, which provide clear direction for the day and ensure every crew member understands their role and responsibilities.
Jesus currently works under Superintendent Mike Rubio, who speaks highly of him:
“Jesus is an all around good guy, someone who will stick it out with you all the way and always brings a positive attitude, which makes him great to work with,” says Mike. “He’s thoughtful of the other trades working around him, which helps create a seamless work environment. He also picks up on things others might miss. When Jesus builds something, you can see the pride in his work, there’s no cutting corners.”
Mike also shared that he has personally known Jesus for over 20 years on the job and is proud to continue having him as part of his team.
Team members like Jesus help set the standard for professionalism, craftsmanship, and teamwork on our jobsites. We appreciate the experience, leadership, and pride he brings to work every day. 👏

Meet Ieva Jastromskaite, an Estimator and Project Manager at Urata & Sons Concrete with 11 years in the construction industry. With a college background in concrete and structural systems, Ieva was drawn to construction because she enjoys seeing how what she learned in school applies to real-world projects.
She loves the variety her role brings every project presents new challenges and opportunities to solve problems. One accomplishment she’s especially proud of is helping secure the SJMC Stockton Parking Garage, her first time estimating a precast parking structure.
Her advice for women entering construction: “It’s tough work, but it’s interesting and rewarding. Stay even-tempered and develop a thick skin.”
Originally from Lithuania, Ieva enjoys spending her free time outdoors biking, hiking, and paddleboarding.

Jenelle Pickard joined Urata & Sons Concrete in 2018 in accounting and transitioned into the safety department in 2024. She now serves as a Field Safety Manager, supporting crews across multiple jobsites and helping maintain a safe working environment.
This past weekend, Jenelle earned her Associate Safety Professional (ASP) credential through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, marking an important milestone in her safety career.
Outside of work, Jenelle lives in Sacramento with her fiancé and their black cat, Jet, and enjoys cooking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
