I recently checked in on this Custer project that I designed for Scott McCaskell Construction. It’s a bed & breakfast/Airbnb lodge at their Tiny Bison Resort east of town. Lots of windows with amazing views to the northeast. The back wall is around 41’-0” high! Imagine sitting on those future lower and upper decks checking out that view! 🤩

I capitalized on the wonderful spring weather yesterday to observe the installation of roof trusses on this remarkable new residence, a $4 million project that I designed for Mehlhaff Construction, currently under construction near Hill City. I also had the opportunity to witness one of the largest cranes I have ever seen in operation on a residential project, featuring a 140-foot swing radius.

The residence will boast enormous windows and doors, designed to maximize the stunning views to the south. The trophy room features a 25’ high vaulted ceiling with plenty of wall space to exhibit the results of the owner’s hunting expeditions.

I will be monitoring this project's progress closely and will be sharing additional photos in the future!

This newly designed home, developed in collaboration with Jones Construction of Rapid City, is progressing admirably. With over 3800 square feet of space on a single level, the residence boasts 3 bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms. The interior design features 10’-0” ceilings throughout, complemented by vaulted ceilings in the Great Room, Family Room, and Master Bedroom. As expected, the beamwork executed by Ross Jones and his team is exceptional. The gas fireplaces, carefully selected by Melanie Jones in conjunction with the client, are truly amazing. This newly completed residence, designed for special friends and constructed by Russ Johnson Construction of Hill City in the central Black Hills, is a testament to exceptional design and craftsmanship. The 1 1/2 story layout features 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, and a 3-car garage.
The homeowner's desire for expansive windows to capitalize on the breathtaking views has been successfully realized, yielding a truly satisfying result. The custom metal railing on the upper level offers a stunning visual connection to the lower level and to the outside with large dormer windows.
It was a genuine pleasure to design this residence and witness its transformation into a dream home for my valued friends!

Here’s some exterior pictures of a large, one-level home I designed for Jones Construction being built south of Rockerville, SD. Check out the half-covered, half-open rear concrete patio for the outdoor lover that doesn’t want outdoor creatures getting too close! This one just has a few interior details that need to be finished before they hand off the keys to the happy homeowners.

This afternoon I checked out the progress of another large home I designed with Jones Construction that’s being built southwest of Hermosa, SD. The exterior is about finished and the interior is waiting for countertops and some finish details. Another exceptional home built by Jones Construction!

I checked out a new build I designed for Legacy Construction by Jared Ahlstrom near Hill City today. Another exceptional house on a very challenging location, but it’s coming together very nicely. Featuring 4 spacious bedrooms each with a private bathroom plus another full bath in the bonus room over the garage. High vaulted ceilings on the main level and a 10’ ceiling in the basement give the home great volume. Very impressive!

I was fortunate to reconnect with one of my best friends growing up a few years back, and discovered that they were planning on building a new home in the Black Hills. We chatted about their needs and desires for the house, and I put together the plans for their dream home.
It is now being built by a top notch builder from Hill City, Russ Johnson Construction. I’ll be posting more photos as the house progresses, but first I’d like to share some pictures of the window designs that we decided on. She likes big windows, and I’m very happy to say that I accommodated her. What do you think??
