Within a few minutes of arriving at our friendly farm turkey/deer camp in VT this evening I had over 20 ticks on my legs and body. 58 years ago when mom and dad purchased the land there were no ticks. I sprayed permethrin on them and they just licked it off me. Live and let live. NOT!

I offered to one of my clients, Russell Hammond, to let his son Russell Jr. go deer hunting on one of my stands for a hunt this fall. He took me up on the offer and JR got his deer this evening. I took Jr turkey hunting this spring and he got a monster gobbler. Life is good!

This evening I went "Bowling" as the bad weather postponed my deer measuring. I will donate these and others to any New England sportsman's organization for raffles. First come, first served. The first bowl is around 18" across. Wormy spaulted maple.

Every year I donate one of my bowls to the NH PBS Spring Auction. This one is a BIG wormy, spaulted, maple bowl. I attempted to make it look over a 100 years old but it is actually only two days old.

This is what I do on rainy days when hunting season is over. The first bowl is from a chunk of red cedar given to me by my friend Alan Cote. The third from the last bowl is from the former state record chestnut oak that grew at the high school in Raymond, NH. The 200 year old tree blew over a few years ago.

As a hobby bowl maker, I'm always looking for interesting wood to work with. This past fall I was doing a survey for a flood certificate in Pittsfield and found a recently cut piece of willow burl laying on the ground behind the owners house. The owner let me have it and as my first project (yesterday) after hunting season ended, I went to work with it. It was not coming out good as it had a deep depression on the bottom keeping me from making the bowl deep enough. I was ready to throw it away then got the idea to use it as a plaque for the nice rack my son got last year in NH. Problem solved and no time wasted. Life is good!

I knew who was STEALING MY CORN but I put up a camera just to confirm the guilty party. Note To beaver: "I have a trapper who is going to take care of YOU and the coyotes early November. You have been warned!! If you decide to change your ways, please don't tip off the coyotes. Our little secret?"

I wonder what this beaver is up to?

Please move, you are blocking the camera!!
