It’s such a joy of ours to build gardens like these. We get such a kick out of seeing all of the new and different insects that call this home. To see red winged black birds drinking from cup plants is so cool. Dragonflies zipping around being bio-indicators for healthy habitat. It’s all just so much fun being apart of something bigger!

Love a good yard transformation, 250 native plants in the ground and no more grass to mow. Happy days😄

A small rain garden that should be seeing some action this week. It’s so cool when we get to make something out of nothing. A blank space that turns into a micro habitat is pretty fulfilling work. Excited to see it in action, ill post updates of it💧🌱☀️

Happy from Heartland Conservation Alliance 🌎 Let's shower our incredible planet with extra love today and make it a habit every day. Remember, even the smallest acts of green kindness – like recycling that extra bottle or planting native flowers – can make a big, beautiful difference! 🌱💚

To kick off Earth Day week, this past Saturday, HCA in collaboration with Renewing the Blue contractor Bluestem Habitat Restoration and a dedicated group of volunteers to plant 138 native trees within the oxbow riparian zone along the Blue River at Blue Valley Park. This effort builds on extensive honeysuckle removal, which helps to restore the midstory and create space for native species to thrive.

But don’t worry, there are more opportunities to celebrate Earth Day today, this weekend, and for weeks to come! Join us today or this Saturday for restoration work at the Heartland Overlook Preserve. As an added bonus, Saturday’s restoration workday is also paired with a bioblitz in collaboration with the City Nature Challenge! Register for either or both opportunities at tinyurl.com/hcawr26 or click the link in bio.

Happy Earth Day everyone ✨ 🌱 ☀️

ATTENTION JOHNSON COUNTY RESIDENTS: Deep Roots has partnered with Johnson County Stormwater's 'Contain The Rain' program to give away 150 native trees to residents of Johnson County who remove a Callery pear tree. This is in support of an effort to better manage stormwater and support wildlife with more native trees!🌳🐝🌳

Steps to get a tree:
1. Cut down a Callery pear tree on your property! And take a photo of it, perhaps with a person or house in the background for scale.
2.Register using the Eventbrite link above for one of 150 trees
3. Show up to pick up your free tree on May 9th at the Deep Roots Native Plant Sale event location. Verify your Johnson Co residency, then show your removed pear photo to Deep Roots staff, volunteers, or partners as you check in to select your free native replacement.

The offer is limited to one native tree (3-gallon pot size, approximately 4 feet tall) per Johnson County household. Registration is required.

Tree availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations for specific trees. Trees will be available only during event times on May 9th. Please show up if you register, as supplies are limited to 150 registrants and demand is high.
