THIS IS A LETTER THAT I GOT FROM PECO
Many of you have been calling and inquiring about high electric bills and possible problems with your heating and air conditioning systems. I can assure you, for the most part, they are all probably working just fine. Thought I would share this...
PECO
If your winter PECO bills look higher than usual, you’re right – the extended cold weather this season has led to increased energy usage for many customers.
Record Cold Weather
January temperatures averaged 14 degrees below normal, and the region had nine straight days below freezing – making it one of the coldest months in the past decade. This drove some of the highest winter electricity and natural gas usage PECO has ever recorded.
The cold continued into early February, causing energy use to rise significantly above average:
- During the coldest stretch, PECO experienced some of the highest winter electric usage levels ever recorded, with demand surging well above seasonal norms.
- The same period also produced back‑to‑back natural gas demand records, marking the highest and second-highest usage days in company history as customers worked to heat their homes and businesses.
What This Means for Your Bill
When it’s cold outside, homes and businesses naturally use more energy to stay warm, even if you don’t adjust the thermostat. Because of the sustained cold snaps, your system may have been running more often, and that additional energy use will show up on your bill.
