SAFETY TIPS WEDNESDAY - " HIDDEN DANGERS "
we took a phone call recently where the customer just wanted us to come out and replace a circuit breaker... LIttle did they realize we were going to uncover something 'Hiding '..
The call sounded simple enough. The customer wanted to buy a new circuit breaker because the old one “wasn’t working.” Easy day, or so we thought.
Once our electrician started poking around, the story changed fast. More than three rooms had no power at all. Not flickering. Not weak. Just dead. The customer was ready for this moment, though. She proudly pulled out an electrical finding tool she’d bought at Hardware store. The screen confirmed what she already believed. The breaker was not sending power. Case closed, right?
Not quite.
Our electrician kept troubleshooting . Breakers were fine. Panel looked good. Then he noticed a Murphy bed tucked neatly against the wall. Out of curiosity and mild suspicion, he folded it down. Behind it was the real culprit. A completely burned up Quickwire receptacle, blackened and cooked, no longer carrying current anywhere. It had been quietly killing the circuit from behind the bed like an electrical ninja.
The customer stared at it for a long second and then said, very confidently, “I have never seen that outlet before.”
And honestly, we believed her. It was hidden behind a bed that folded into a wall, the receptacle was on a circuit feeding half the house, and silently failing for who knows how long. The breaker was innocent. The tool did its best. And the mystery was solved by one Murphy bed with a very shocking secret.
We did safely make the repair and restore power to the circuit. While we don't have anything against Do it yourselfers, WHEN something is not working, and affects major appliances or parts of your home , Please call a professional for a safe, reliable solution.
