Reminder: It's getting to be that time of year where the temperature is starting to dip down especially at night. Make sure to remove your hoses from any hydrants so they can drain. Wall hydrants on your home drain from the inside out and yard hydrants drain underground. Leaving a hose on can prevent drainage and cause hydrants to freeze and break. Also, now is the time to start thinking about covering old well pits if they aren't sealed very good around the top. If your pit has holes a cold wind in freezing temperatures will infiltrate the pit and possibly freeze pipes. A good tarp weighted down around the edges of the pit is a good preventative measure, and if possible, hanging a heat lamp close to the pressure switch will help keep the small 1/4" fittings feeding it from freezing up first. If your pit has a wood top with little insulation, a heavy tarp and straw bales will help keep it warmer as well.

Here's some more photos from our buried tank job. This well was temporaried with a galvanized tank on top of the pit to keep the homes in water until the new tank is online. We got the old tank dug out and the new tank set and bedded with sand. Then the pit wall was cemented back up to the new tank. We'll go back later and disconnect the temporary tank and turn everything into the new underground tank after we do some repiping in the pit.

We have noticed that with the rising cost of material, many people do not have enough money on their insurance policies covering their well pumps. Give your insurance agent a call and make sure you have enough coverage before you have an issue and come up short.

Some days you're pulling pipes 20' in the air and some days your digging them up 5' in the ground.

In the past we and several other companies have used fabricated propane tanks for underground storage. Today, it seems that the metal those tanks are made with isn't as good as it once was. We can have 1000 gallon tanks resurfaced on the inside but not a 500. One option is to buy a tank specifically made for this purpose at a much larger cost that the LP tanks but still made of steel, or make a lifetime investment in a stainless tank. For some home additions with several owners who don't want to buy another steel tank and don't want to build a well shed, these stainless tanks are a choice they have been making. We replaced a steel tank yesterday with the stainless one pictured here. We took out all the old copper piping from the well and replaced it with brass and PVC. We hooked up to the existing PVC main going out, and hooked up the air control and pressure switch lines with all brass instead of galvanized so it won't rot out. This set up should give the home owners many many years of faithful service. If your steel underground storage tank starts to leak, give us a call and see what your options are.

This is a job we just finished up the other day. Customer had a buried pressure tank in a low clearance well pit that sprung a leak. We lifted the lid, removed the old tank and patched the hole with concrete. We replaced it with three 40 gallon fiberglass tanks that would fit in the pit. The customer was only out of water for a short time because we hooked up a temporary tank above ground to get them by. We never want to see someone be without water.
