As a part of Safety Month, we want to take this opportunity to explain the basics of the use of fire extinguishers.

As a reminder, please only use fire extinguishers for small fires and remember "P.A.S.S.".

Pull the pin. Make sure the nozzle is facing away from you and release the locking mechanism.

Aim low at the base of the fire

Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly

Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side

Please contact your local fire department to learn more about fire safety at the home and the workplace.

When it comes to Safety, there's a term that often comes up in conversation and in proper protocol: competent person.

But what does "competent person" actually mean?

According to OSHA themselves, it's defined as "'one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them' [29 CFR 1926.32(f)]."

For Safety Month, we followed Safety Manager Jerry Darst to see the work he does. Part of his job involves traveling to various job sites to ensure safety compliance standards are met.

He also helps provide adequate hydration and the appropriate attire to our field crews at these sites.

Safety isn't just lip service that a company espouses; it's a value we must live by. At Geotex, it's something we always want to keep at the forefront of our minds.
