Winter comfort isn’t only about the heating system.

Small gaps and poorly sealed areas around a home can allow heated air to escape and cold outside air to find its way in — making rooms less comfortable and forcing the mechanical system to work harder.

That’s why details like insulation, air sealing, windows, doors and exterior penetrations matter.

A well-built home should work as a system: the building envelope keeps the weather outside, and the HVAC system keeps the inside comfortable.

A roof problem that seems minor in September can become a very different problem after months of rain, ice, snow and freeze-thaw cycles.

Missing or damaged materials, aging flashing, areas where water is getting in and other weak points are much easier to address before winter weather starts testing the roof every day.

If you already suspect something isn’t right, this is a good time to have it looked at.

Protecting the home for winter starts at the top.

Thirty years ago, Malcarne started with a much smaller operation and a simple goal: do good work and take care of the people who trust us with their homes.

A lot has changed since then.

The projects are larger, the team has grown, and Malcarne now serves homeowners across multiple areas of home care — but that original responsibility has not changed.
When someone hands you the keys to their home and asks you to change it, improve it or protect it, that trust matters.

We’re grateful to have been building in the Hudson Valley for 30 years — and we’re looking forward to what comes next.

A project manager’s job is much more than keeping track of a schedule.

On an active Malcarne project, they are continually checking details, coordinating trades, answering questions, solving problems and making sure the work happening today lines up with everything that comes next.

In this quick jobsite look, we’re showing one of those details in real time.

It’s part of the behind-the-scenes work that helps a complicated renovation feel organized from start to finish.

Some of the most important parts of a renovation disappear behind the drywall.

Before the walls are closed, our team is looking closely at things like framing, mechanical rough-ins, insulation and air sealing, waterproofing, and how all of those systems work together.

This stage may not produce the glamorous finished photos, but it has an enormous impact on how the home performs for years to come.

Good construction is often about getting the details right before anyone can see them.

Addition or renovation?

Sometimes homeowners know their house is no longer working for them — but they’re not sure what the right solution actually is.

Do you need more square footage? Better use of the space you already have? A different layout? Or a combination of all three?

That’s why a good renovation conversation should begin with the problem you’re trying to solve, not simply a list of finishes you want to change.

At Malcarne Contracting, we look at the home as a whole and help homeowners think through what will make the biggest difference in how they live there.

Thinking about an addition or major remodel? Let’s talk about what’s possible.

The finished photos get most of the attention.

But this is where an addition or renovation is actually built.

Framing, mechanicals, waterproofing, insulation, structural details and countless decisions happen long before the finishes go in.

Here’s a quick look inside one of our active Malcarne Contracting projects.

We want to show you more of this side of the work — because good construction is often about what you’ll never see once the project is finished.

Summer is still a strong time for the projects that change how a home actually lives.

Additions, renovations and remodels can create more room, better flow and spaces that finally fit the way a family uses its home.

This is one of our completed Malcarne projects — but the finished photo is only the end of the story. Long before this stage came planning, structure, coordination, craftsmanship and hundreds of details that had to come together correctly.

We’ll be sharing more of that process here, including the parts of construction most homeowners never get to see.

Thinking about changing the way your home works? Let’s start the conversation.

Thirty years ago, Malcarne Contracting began with one truck, one helper, and a commitment to doing quality work the right way.
This year, surrounded by our team, family, clients, friends, and members of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, we celebrated three decades of building, growing, and serving the Hudson Valley.
We are especially proud to mark this milestone by giving back to the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie through a project that will support the important work they do for local children and families.
To our employees, clients, trade partners, and community: thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and helping Malcarne become what it is today. We are incredibly grateful for the past 30 years and excited for everything still ahead.
Here’s to the next chapter.
