If you are experiencing any frozen pipes, I highly recommend that someone stay at home today. Once the temperatures get above freezing, it is a possibility you could have busted pipes in the attic or walls and as soon as the temperatures get above freezing, you will start having ruptured pipes. If you are unable to stay home I recommend you turning off the water at the meter.

 I just want to take a moment and share with everyone about this coming up weather. We can have temperatures in the single digits. We know for certain that it will be below freezing for 48 hours or longer. Here in Mississippi when we are below freezing for 48 hours it will be devastating. A lot of homes are not as insulated as they are up north especially older homes. With that being said let me give you a few pointers. I remember back in 1996 we had the same situation And I worked 48 straight hours repairing busted water lines inside house walls. (That’s correct inside your walls.) Especially homes with vinyl siding. So here are some tips to help you through this. 

1. If you have any sinks on an exterior wall of your home, Open your cabinet doors to allow the heat to get underneath your cabinets. 
2. Make sure all outside water faucets are completely covered. If you don’t have a cover put a towel around it with some tape to hold it tight and then tie a plastic bag around it. Make sure no air can get in between the wall and your insulation that you put around it.
3.  If have a sink or tub on an exterior wall, be sure to start letting the water run with a slight drip once our temperature start getting below freezing.  
4. If for any reason you suspect that any of your pipes have frozen. First locate a faucet in your house that is still running and then go turn off the water to your home at the water meter.  once you have turn the water off at the meter come back to that faucet that you found in your home that was still working. Turn on the Coldwater and leave it on. This will take the pressure off of your waterlines and will hopefully prevent your pipe from swelling and splitting a pipe. This is the most important part of all the instructions. You may get frozen pipes but this is how you could prevent them from busting once the temperature gets above freezing.
