PART 1. We’re renovating this custom 1970s home with the goal of keeping its original character, while updating the structural pieces to meet today’s building codes. One of the standout features we’re really working to preserve is those distinctive, rough-cut ridge beams - they give the home a lot of personality.
For the design direction, especially in the kitchen, we’re leaning into a mid-century modern feel. The old cabinet layout actually blocked a lot of the natural light coming in from the windows, so we’re opening that up to make the space feel brighter and more connected.
We’re also adding a custom 6-foot window to bring in even more natural light and really highlight the views of the surrounding landscape.
In terms of materials, we’re going for a more biophilic, nature-inspired look. That includes cherrywood cabinets with a strong, visible grain and pairing those with graphite granite countertops to keep things grounded but still warm and inviting.
Stay tuned for more behind the scenes work.
