In April 2017, a mother and her two precious children, Kaius and Valkyrie, escaped a life of terror. The mother, a survivor of her ex-husband’s violent attack that left her with permanent damage to her vocal cords, thought they had finally found freedom and began rebuilding their shattered lives.
However, on September 25, 2020, their hard-earned peace was cruelly taken away. The ex-husband, aided by unethical lawyers, biased judges, and a corrupt Child Protection Service, gained sole custody of the children in a shocking and illegal turn of events.
This decision, rooted in corruption, was not based on facts or merit.For the past seven years, this mother has fought tirelessly against this egregious injustice, facing a legal system that continues to fail her and her children. Statistics from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reveal that in 70% of cases where abusers seek sole custody, they succeed.
Tragically, children are often used as pawns, with 30-60% of domestic violence perpetrators also abusing children in the household. Further, the legal system frequently fails to protect victims, with only 23% of custody cases involving allegations of domestic violence resulting in protective measures.
Additionally, CPS often supports the abuser and victimizes the victim. Abusers frequently manipulate the system by accusing the protective parent of parental alienation, a tactic used to discredit the victim and shift blame.This family's story is a heartbreaking testament to these grim realities.
Adding to the tragedy, Kaius and Valkyrie have younger half-siblings who still live with their mom. If this was anything other than corruption, the courts would have taken them too. Kaius and Valkyrie's younger siblings miss their older brother and sister so much.
In Virginia, courts generally aim not to separate siblings, highlighting the inconsistency and corruption in this case.
This issue extends beyond one family. It highlights systemic failures where power and corruption overshadow the wellbeing of children.
Policymakers, legal practitioners, and CPS agencies across the nation must re-evaluate and reform these practices to protect our children.
