Today, we pause.

Not for sales. Not for barbecues. Not for the unofficial start of summer.

We pause to remember the men and women who gave everything — their futures, their families, their tomorrows — so that we could have ours.

Memorial Day is a day of gratitude wrapped in grief. It belongs to the soldiers who never came home, to the families who still set an empty place at the table, and to the names etched in stone across cemeteries from Arlington to small-town memorials we pass without a second glance.

Freedom has never been free. It has been paid for, again and again, by those who answered the call and never returned.

To every Gold Star family — we see you. We honor your loved one. We will not forget.

Today, take a moment of silence. Visit a memorial. Place a flag. Tell their stories. Say their names.

Because they are why we are still here.
