Thank you to International Union of Elevator Constructors - IUEC for having us at their very first Global Safety Summit this week.

It was a privilege to come together with so many industry leaders and organizations to put an extra spotlight on what matters most. As everyone in the industry knows, this work is never finished.

Opportunities like this Summit in Las Vegas help keep standards high and focus sharp across every aspect of elevator service.

At Metro, we’re ready to meet that standard — every day.

Big moves in the elevator industry are a reminder that our business is always evolving. Companies will grow, combine, restructure, and change.

Through all of it, what matters most to customers usually stays the same: reliable service, clear communication, quick response, and knowing who to call when something needs attention.

That’s the value of being independent and locally led.

We recently brought key leaders from across Metro together at our annual meeting to focus on one thing: how we continue to serve our customers at the highest level. It was a chance to share ideas, align priorities, and keep raising the standard across every market we serve.

As the largest independent elevator company in the country, we’re backed by significant resources while maintaining local autonomy and decision-making—allowing our teams to move quickly, stay accountable, and remain close to the customers they support every day.

We’re proud to have earned a 99.7% customer retention rate and a 97.6% employee satisfaction rate—numbers that reflect the relationships we’ve built and the culture behind the service we provide.

The industry may change. Our commitment won’t.

"Who is counting on you to come home at the end of the day?”

It’s a question worth asking ourselves every day. Because in our industry, safety isn’t just a talking point — it’s a responsibility we carry on every job, in every role, and with every decision we make.

As we recognize 2026 International Union of Elevator Constructors - IUEC Safety Stand Down Day, we’re sharing a powerful story from one of our own. It’s an experience from earlier in their career that has stayed with them and continues to reinforce something we believe deeply: safety belongs at the center of Metro Elevator, as well as the entire industry.

The work we do is skilled, demanding, and often complex. Experience can make tasks feel familiar, but that’s exactly when focus matters most. Safety is built into how we work through training, communication, accountability, and looking out for one another. It’s not reserved for one day or one conversation — it’s a mindset we must always carry with us.

No job is more important than doing it safely, and everyone deserves to make it home at the end of the day.

There’s pressing a button, and there’s the system behind it.

Every elevator call triggers a coordinated response — controllers processing inputs, systems communicating in real time, and equipment working in harmony to deliver a safe, reliable ride.

It’s the kind of complexity most never think about, and exactly what our teams manage every day.

Hollywood loves a dramatic elevator drop, but real-world elevator safety is a different story.

Modern elevators are built with multiple redundant safety systems, making true free-fall incidents extremely rare. That said, certain issues — like uncontrolled movement — can pose serious risks if they go unaddressed.

By January 1, 2027, all traction elevators in NYC must be equipped with a rope gripper or dual plunger brake system. Don't wait until the deadline creates a bottleneck. Getting ahead of this now means more flexibility, less urgency, and peace of mind for your tenants and building operations.
