I really like this simple planting combination. In the background the Salvia black&blue and the Echinacea magnus has been blooming, and now running into late summer you get an added touch of color with the Chelone (turtle head) and Conoclinium ( blue mist flower). What you think about this combo?

This Ampelopsis (porcelainberry) has years of development ahead of it, but I think she’s looking good. I hope she will hold on to some of the berries so I can see them turn blue/purple later in the season. I still got to work on fattening up the trunk. So I’ve taken two of the thicker stems and wrapped them together. One day they will fuse together making the trunk twisted and gnarly. At least that’s what I hope. I wouldn’t purposely grow this vine in ground because it can be very invasive, as a bonsai think it will become a neat tree. I love its beautiful maple shaped leaves and the berries in the late summer/ fall is amazing. So excited to experiment with growing this and see what it will do in the years to come. Anyone else grow porcelainberry as bonsai? Let me know some tricks on how keep developing it. 😊

Last week we visited Elisha Barnes from Pop Son Farm in Franklin to learn about growing peanuts and find out why he is one of the last farmers still using the traditional method of drying peanuts on the vine. Tune in Tuesday, August 25th @ 8pm on VPM to catch the story!

If you take the time to stop listen and observe your space you can see the coolest things. I love seeing nature at work in my garden.
