WE DO IT FOR FUN…draising. 😎

Last week: VFRI in Charlottesville.
This week: Bridge to Integrated Marketing & Fundraising in National Harbor.

Our 93 Octane team (say “hi” to John and Kelly) has been on the road connecting with nonprofit leaders to talk all things branding, donor engagement, fundraising strategy, and helping mission-driven organizations accelerate their impact.

It’s definitely conference season, and we are so here for it!

Cheers to fireworks in the sky and sky-high mustard on the hot dog. 🎆🌭

One is a Fourth of July tradition. The other is just us staying on brand.

Wishing you a happy, safe, and mustard-filled Independence Day! 💛🇺🇸

In a world built around clicks, swipes, and screens, nonprofit events still remind us of something powerful: people give when they feel connected.

The best fundraising events don’t just generate donations for one night — they open the door to lasting relationships, creating moments where supporters can connect with others who care and be in the room where they feel the direct impact of their generosity.

And when those experiences are intentional? The connection goes even deeper.

Strategic branding, cohesive themes, thoughtful storytelling, and multi-channel marketing can work together to make an event memorable. The strongest fundraising events reflect how people naturally engage — creating experiences that feel purposeful and emotionally resonant while putting donors and supporters at the center of the story.

We saw that firsthand with our client, Saint Francis — Manchester and their Annual Benefit Dinner supporting seniors of limited financial means.

This year’s theme, The Future is Bright, invited attendees to “light up generosity” by wearing something that sparkled or shined. From mailed invitations and RSVP touchpoints to emails, print ads, event signage, printed programs, decor, and presentation slideshows, every detail worked together to create one cohesive experience.

The results over the last four years:
✨ Attendance increased by almost 40%
✨ Contributions grew by $63,000
✨ Four consecutive years of record-breaking attendance and fundraising
✨ Demand continues to outgrow capacity, prompting a move to a larger venue at The Jefferson Hotel

But the biggest win isn’t just the numbers.

It’s the reminder that when nonprofits create experiences rooted in purpose and human connection, supporters don’t just show up once — they come back invested in the mission for years to come.

People often think creative work is about making things look pretty.

It isn't.

For savvy marketers, creative engagement is about understanding human behavior. It's strategy expressed visually. It's knowing how color, typography, imagery, and messaging collaborate to make viewers stop scrolling, build trust, form an emotional connection and take action!

The best creative isn't decoration. It's persuasion. It’s brains and finesse working together to drive results.

Anyone can make something beautiful. Making something beautiful and effective is the work of a true Einstein.

Sometimes you’re so busy chasing deadlines, you lose focus on yourself — where you’ve been, where you’re headed, and the people helping you get there.

So for the last few days, that’s exactly what we did at our very first 93 Octane brand summit.

We stepped away from the buzz to spend time together as a team (even Jenna flew in), reflect on the future of 93 Octane, and recharge our creative batteries. Which, in addition to some important brand-building work, meant delicious team lunches, summer swag bags and sun-soaked strolling through Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. 🌿☀️

And yes… we absolutely made everyone stop for a branded team photo before we left.

Feeling refreshed, recharged, and excited for what’s ahead. 🚀

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a box that doesn’t fit?

That’s exactly what St. Joseph’s Villa experienced before embarking on an ambitious plan to turn its Sara Dooley Center into a state-of-the-art center for autism.

Donors thought of a university, hospital system, or a major museum when it came to making million-dollar gifts … not a health and human services organization like theirs.

That is, until they launched RISE UP with help from 93 Octane.
The bold campaign expanded donors’ vision of what they were capable of, inspiring them to step up in ways they never had.

It not only proved that the Villa could steward a seven-figure gift, but also that supporting them could make an outsized community impact.

“It really broke a ceiling for us in a way that I think people saw us differently,” said CEO Jenny Friar.

The result? Not only did the Villa receive its first million-dollar gifts in its 200-year history, but RISE UP exceeded its fundraising goal by 20% — even during the pandemic!

The campaign raised over $30 million, underwriting the renovation, capital improvements, and programs, and bolstering their endowment.

“At the end of the day, you know, a building is just a shell. It’s really not that exciting, and so you need a vision to kind of bring it to life,” said Friar. “Donors gave to create the environment where lives could be changed. 93 Octane did a good job of demonstrating that.”

Want to grow your donations?

Expand the box your donors have you in. When you enlarge the vision, the donations will follow.
