🚨 Why Are These Skylights Leaking? The Installation Was Done Incorrectly. 🚨

During this roof inspection, we found that every skylight on the home had flashing and shingle installation issues that could lead to water intrusion.

Here’s what we discovered:

❌ No proper water channel above the skylights
❌ Shingles cut too tightly against the flashing
❌ Improper drainage paths
❌ Bottom flashing installed underneath the shingles instead of over them

The biggest concern? Water that gets trapped around the skylight has nowhere to properly drain. Instead of flowing safely down the roof and into the gutters, water can work its way underneath the shingles and into the roofing system.

Another day, another leaking plastic stem vent👀

One installed correctly using the pre-drilled holes = no cracks.

The others?
❌ Cracked at the fasteners
❌ Split all the way to the base
❌ Actively leaking

If you’re using plastic vent boots, the manufacturer literally gives you pre-drilled holes for a reason. Miss those holes and you’re putting stress straight into the plastic every time you drive a nail.
