This photo was taken around 1954. That’s my dad (Ken) sitting on the bumper of their first pump truck, with their driver, Earnie, standing beside it. It was an old 4-wheel-drive Army truck, and they had started pumping septic tanks in 1953.

And if you look closely at the door… Wilkinson Septic Tank Service — PHONE 3. 😂 Yep, the phone number was literally 3!!!

Over 70 years later, we’re still in the precast and septic business. Pretty special to have pictures like this, and even more special to have Dad here to tell me the stories behind them. ❤️

A little Wilkinson history. ❤️

This photo was taken in 1958 — W.E. Wilkinson hauling concrete septic tanks long before the equipment looked anything like it does today.

It’s pretty incredible to look back at where it all started and how much has changed over the years… but we’re still in the concrete business all these years later.

Wilkinson Precast — built on a whole lot of history.

Not all “1,500-gallon” septic tanks are created equal.

When comparing septic systems, don’t just look at the gallon rating or the price tag. Ask about the actual septic treatment capacity, how it’s calculated, and how the tank is built.

At Wilkinson Precast, our 1,500-gallon tank weighs approximately 17,000 pounds. Some comparable tanks weigh around 12,000 pounds—a difference of 5,000 pounds, or 2½ tons.

For more than 55 years, we’ve built our tanks with 5,000 PSI concrete, quality reinforcement, and full septic capacity designed to meet ASTM C1227 standards.

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that many septic systems are replaced during real estate transactions when required inspections reveal problems. A significant portion of our business comes from replacing failed septic systems.

Those systems were installed by many different manufacturers over many decades. What those replacements remind us is that quality matters. A septic tank is expected to perform underground for decades, and the choices made during manufacturing can have a lasting impact on its durability and service life.

A septic system is one of the most important investments on your property. It’s buried underground and expected to perform for decades. Before you buy, ask:

• What is the actual septic treatment capacity?
• How much does the tank weigh?
• How is it reinforced?
• What concrete strength is being used?
• Will it stand the test of time?

Because when it comes to septic systems, the cheapest option is often the most expensive one later.
