Congratulations to this amazing couple on closing on their new home today. We were able to help them out by allowing them to pay for the Roof out of closing funds.

Tomorrow we will be doing the roof, and then their title company will send payment. So although they are paying for the roof, they did not have to come out of pocket upfront.

I wish you guys many great memories in your new home!

A little chimney repair we just finished up.

There are two ways to flash a chimney, but only one of them is correct. When a chimney is built, or any wall that ties into a roof line, there is a headwall flashing that is installed against the wall’s substrate. That flashing is terminated by the siding.

But sometimes, as a building ages, the original flashing will rust out.

At that point you are presented with a choice: opt for a more expensive repair, where you remove the siding, replace the flashing, and then replace the siding. Or opt for a cheaper repair, where you flash the outside of the siding and then counter it with another piece of metal.

I am speaking Roofer right now, but if you are ever presented with this choice, choose to remove the siding.

A longer watch but very useful info! This is what wind damage TRULY looks like.

A lot of fraud goes on in the Florida roofing industry with insurance claims. Contractors will vandalize a roof and call it wind damage.

This is what true wind damage looks like on an architectural shingle. They will almost never crease. It would take a solid 130 mph wind to truly crease an architectural shingle.

Bolt Roofing has plenty of experience with insurance claims, although we are mainly geared towards retail.

However, one benefit of a quality inspection is that we will be honest with you when the damage is there. For this particular house, we are going for an insurance claim because it makes perfect sense.

Solar can be a great investment, but it is not for everybody.

Planning to move from your house within 10 to 15 years? Don’t do it. Shingle roof older than 5 to 10 years old? Don’t do it. Lots of trees providing shade for your house? Don’t do it.

It is a great resource, especially if you can store power in a bank and power your home when the grid is down, but it is not always as good of an investment as the salesman frames it.
