πŸ”§ TIP TUESDAY β€” Before Ordering Compactor Parts

Take these three types of photos before calling or emailing:

1. The complete machine
2. Every data and serial-number plate you can find
3. A close-up of the failed part or problem area

Self-contained compactors may have separate identification plates for the compactor and the container. Photograph every plateβ€”not just the first one you find.

Make sure the model number, serial number, and manufacturing date are clear and readable. This information helps determine the correct equipment revision and can prevent ordering the wrong cylinder, switch, seal kit, control, or safety component.

πŸ”§ **It's Bob's Tip Tuesday!**

One of the most expensive service calls I see often starts with something that was easy to ignore...

**A small hydraulic oil leak.**

A few drops of oil under your compactor or baler may not seem like a big deal, but leaks almost always get worseβ€”not better. A leaking hose, fitting, cylinder, or valve can eventually lead to:

βœ… Low hydraulic oil levels
βœ… Slower machine operation
βœ… Pump damage from running low on oil
βœ… An unexpected shutdown when you need the machine most

**Here's my advice:** If you notice fresh hydraulic oil around your equipment, don't just wipe it off and forget about it. Take a few minutes to find where it's coming from and schedule the repair before it becomes an emergency.

A planned repair is almost always less expensive than emergency downtime.

If you're not sure what you're looking at, send me a picture. I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

πŸ’¬ **Have a maintenance question or a repair issue you've been wondering about? Leave it in the comments or send me a message. It might become next week's Bob's Tip Tuesday!**

Have a great week!

πŸ›  Bob's Tip #1

Always verify the correct serial number before ordering compactor parts.

When a compactor is new, the compactor and hydraulic power unit are shipped together as a matched set. However, over the years, it's common for power units to be replaced, swapped between compactors, or relocated to another machine.

That's why it's important to verify which serial number belongs to the equipment you're ordering parts for.

Need a part for the compactor? Use the compactor serial number.
Need a part for the hydraulic power unit? Use the power unit serial number.

Using the wrong serial number can lead to incorrect parts, unnecessary downtime, and additional expense.

If you can't find the serial number, don't worry. Send me a few pictures of your equipment, and I'll be happy to help identify what you have.

πŸ”§ Part of the Week

This week's featured part is one of the most common key switches used on many Marathon compactors and waste equipment.

πŸ”‘ Marathon Part Number: 030195
πŸ”‘ Allen-Bradley Part Number: 800T-NX970

Function:
This key-operated maintained selector with a push-to-start function is commonly used on Marathon equipment to enable and initiate machine operation.

These switches are used daily and can eventually wear out from years of service. If your machine is experiencing intermittent starting issues or won't start at all, the key switch is one component worth checking.

πŸ’‘ Bob's Tip:
Don't assume a replacement part is correct just because it looks the same. Marathon has updated many part numbers and manufacturers over the years. Verifying the correct replacement before ordering can save downtime, return shipping, and frustration.
