Happy Fall, y'all!🍂

It's been a hectic year with a new day job and a longer commute, so I haven't had much time in the workshop lately. But I couldn't resist carving a few wooden pumpkins to bring some autumn spirit to my desk space. I think they turned out even better than last year - though I might be a little biased. 😁

I had some extra purple heart left over from a previous project and wanted to incorporate it in a new end-grain cutting board.

This design gave me a unique checkerboard pattern with purple heart, maple, walnut and mahogany with thin strips of purple heart that lined up in stripes near the middle.

I added a border of walnut to frame the pattern.

After flattening, I will square it up again and add the edge profile. Unfortunately, my flattening jig needs repair and due to other unforeseen circumstances (loss of the day job and searching for a new one), I had to shelve this project until a later date.

Matching set of 2 premium end grain cutting boards using maple, walnut, purple heart and mahogany. I think the pattern the customer picked turned out really nice.

I had a very special request from my most valuable customer (who just happens to be my wife.) We needed a new stocking holder after the previous aluminum one broke. Instead of buying them, we picked out some walnut and I made this.

This is a walnut board attached to some hickory brackets that slip over the top shelf of the fireplace surround. There are no screws into the fireplace and thus no holes to fix in the sheet-rock after the holidays. I left room at the top so we could add some vinyl letters... either our family name or a holiday phrase. (Not sure yet.)

I added a roman ogee profile around the face of it to dress it up and some decorative metal hooks to hold the stockings.

I like how it turned out. What do you think?

Farmhouse bed that I made for my son. The 3D wooden star that I made gave it the perfect masculine touch and really dressed up the headboard.

He decided that instead of a trundle under his bed, he wanted a bunk to go over it.

Here is my version of the farmhouse twin-over-full boys bunk-bed.

*EDIT: The bunk is installed in my son's room. It only lacks the ladder, but he was so excited to sleep on it that he decided to climb on the headboard to get up. I'll update that picture when I get the ladder installed since the top bunk will actually be about 13" closer to the wall.

Finished another premium end-grain cutting board. This one is hickory and mahogany.

When I originally glued up the stock to make this pattern, I had intended it to be a border for a different project. I cut it and set it on the table and started to think it looked too good to be a border. I sprayed it with a little water to see what it would look like finished and that was it. It just HAD to become a new board.

I hadn't made much from hickory (other than smoking chunks of it to make a brisket.) I do like how it turned out.

My church had some gospel tracts sitting in a pile on a railing. They were kind of hard to see, so this week I made a couple of business card holders to display them better.

It has been very hot in the workshop so I haven't been able to get out there as much lately... but the cold front and long holiday weekend has let me get back to a project that I had already started. For the last end-grain cutting board, I had cut enough maple and walnut strips for two projects. This one has a diagonal offset checkerboard pattern in the field with a border of mahogany.

Working on a custom order for a noodle board / stove cover for an RV.

The noodle board will cover the stove burners so the surface can be used as additional prep space. It can also be flipped over and used as a tray.
