Southern Gap High School

Buchanan County’s story is deeply rooted in coal.

For generations, its miners helped power American industry, fuel the nation’s steel mills, and support an economic network that stretched far beyond the mountains of Southwest Virginia. The hard work, resilience, ingenuity, and pride that defined Buchanan County during the height of its mining days served as guiding principles for the new Southern Gap High School.

Located on a former coal mining site, the new 200,000-square-foot campus brings students from Grundy, Hurley, Council, and Twin Valley together under one roof.

The new facility includes modern academic and science spaces, career and technical education programs, performing arts facilities, and a complete athletic complex. This community now has more opportunities to learn, compete, create, and prepare for what comes next.

We are proud to have helped bring this transformative campus to life.

Buchanan County’s mining heritage is not simply its past. It is a foundation of strength, determination, and know-how that can help fuel the community’s future.

Congratulations to Buchanan County, its students, and its teachers.

Throwback Thursday to our construction of Best Western Plus Inn at Hunt Ridge in 1994.

This scenic hotel offers a convenient place to rest near Lexington's two colleges, Virginia Military Institute and Washington & Lee University. It's also 1 mile from the historic downtown, offering everything from boutiques to restaurants.

The backpacks are full, the bells are ringing, and the halls are buzzing with excitement for the new school year.

Branch was honored to renovate and expand Glen Cove Elementary School in Roanoke County, Virginia. The new design replaced the outdated open-concept layout with defined modern classrooms. The new configuration creates a better environment for focused instruction while giving teachers more flexibility for interactive, hands-on learning.

From substructure to superstructure. 💪

Our team recently reached another milestone on the VDOT L40 project as work continues to move upward.

This timelapse, captured by Structures General Foreman Rene, shows the transition into superstructure activities—bringing the team one step closer to installing the bridge deck in the coming weeks.

Great work by our employee-owners keeping this project moving forward.

Today, Branch was proud to host the 2026 ConnectHER Conference, bringing together women professionals and leaders from across Virginia’s Blue Ridge for a day focused on connection, leadership and growth.

Throughout the day, women shared ideas, built new relationships, and learned from one another through conversations about leadership, communication, mentorship, networking and professional development.

We were honored to open our doors and provide a space for women throughout the Roanoke Valley to connect, learn and grow together.

Thank you to the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, the speakers and everyone who joined us for an inspiring day.
