How do you turn a NASCAR race shop into a Field Maintenance Shop for the Virginia National Guard?

We added three large overhead doors for military-sized vehicles, an overhead crane, specialized electrical tailored to their equipment, eyewashes and enhanced exhaust systems for safety, and expanded POL and compressed air distribution—while repurposing existing jib cranes from the former Dyno Rooms all to provide better functionality.

From race-ready to mission-ready, this shop is ready to serve. 🇺🇸

While students have been enjoying summer break, Culpeper Middle School has been preparing for a new chapter. Over the past several months, the building has been thoughtfully reimagined to support the ways students learn, collaborate, create, and connect.

From light-filled learning environments and flexible classrooms to renewed commons and dining spaces, each improvement reflects a shared commitment to creating places where education can thrive.

We're grateful to Culpeper County Public Schools, Taft Construction Inc, and the many partners whose collaboration has brought this project to life.

We look forward to welcoming students back and seeing these spaces filled with curiosity, creativity, and community once again.

Great design starts with collaboration.

Our team joined representatives from Virginia Western Community College —including staff, leadership, and a student ambassador—to review interior finish palettes for the renovation of Chapman Hall, the campus's primary enrollment center.

Together, we evaluated material options and selected a finish palette that is welcoming, timeless, durable, and reflective of Virginia Western's identity.

As the college's "front door," Chapman Hall is being reimagined to create a stronger first impression while improving the enrollment experience for current and prospective students.

We're grateful for the opportunity to partner with Virginia Western on a project that will have a lasting impact on the student experience.

Summer at Spectrum Design means more than project milestones and construction updates—it also means investing in the next generation of design professionals.

This year, we're glad to welcome Freddi Lopez (UVA School of Architecture) and Ryan Sherrill (Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design) to our summer internship program. Throughout the summer, they'll be working alongside our architecture team, gaining hands-on experience and contributing to projects that serve communities across the region.

For Freddi, this summer marks his third internship with Spectrum Design. Watching students return year after year is always rewarding.

We're looking forward to a summer of learning, collaboration, and fresh perspectives. Welcome, Ryan and Freddi!

Watching our designs come to life on three Virginia Department of Military Affairs Readiness Center mechanical upgrades.

Each 50+ year-old Readiness Center facility presented the same challenge: replacing aging HVAC equipment, ductwork, and piping within extremely limited ceiling space and mechanical chases—all while keeping the buildings fully operational during construction.

Our solution? High-efficiency VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems.

Through careful routing and modular design, we're fitting compact VRF piping and indoor units into tight existing spaces, delivering improved zoning, heat recovery, variable-speed efficiency, enhanced humidity and temperature control, bipolar ionization, and upgraded filtration.

Old buildings. Modern performance. Same footprint. Lower operating costs.

Congratulations to Mount Rogers Community Services on Monday's ribbon cutting for the new Twin Campus in Galax!

We were excited to attend the celebration and honored to serve as the Architect/Engineer for the renovation of the former Vaughan Furniture headquarters into the new Mount Rogers Twin Campus!

Working with Rinker Design Associates, LLC, Salas O'Brien, and Gibson Engineering Services, LLC, we helped create a welcoming all-in-one facility offering counseling, medical services, wellness programs, Project Link, the PEER Center, training, and a 23-hour Crisis Care Center under one roof.

As CEO Sandy Bryant shared, "I appreciate all those who made this building what it is. It looks beautiful and we're very proud of it."

We're grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the MRCSB team on a project that is about much more than a building. It's a place where individuals and families can find care, hope, and support when they need it most. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life!

Sometimes the best hires are the ones who already feel like part of the team.

Last summer, Bethany Cox spent time with Spectrum Design as an intern. This summer, she's back as our newest Interior Design Associate.

A recent Virginia Tech School of Design graduate, Bethany impressed our team with her creativity, attention to detail, and passion for thoughtful design. It's been rewarding to watch her grow over the past year, and we're excited to see her take the next step in her professional journey.

We're proud to welcome Bethany back to Spectrum Design and look forward to the ideas, energy, and perspective she'll bring to our clients and projects.

Congratulations to the Virginia Military Institute Class of 2026!

As you celebrate this special milestone this weekend, we’re proud to share in the excitement and continue supporting the historic campus that shapes future leaders.

Spectrum Design recently completed a waterproofing and courtyard resurfacing project at VMI’s historic “New Barracks,” originally constructed in 1948. The project enhanced drainage performance, improved insulation values, and provided a durable new courtyard surface featuring a dedicated Sentry Path — blending long-term functionality with respect for the site’s historic character.

A special thank you to Nielsen Builders, Inc. for their outstanding work and partnership on this project.
