This custom kitchen blends modern craftsmanship with the character of another era. A high-end gas range, dramatic stone backsplash, hammered copper sink, and freestanding wood stove bring together distinctive materials and timeless style, while generous window light and open walls keep the space feeling warm and inviting.

If you've kept up with this build in previous posts, you'll remember what makes this home especially unique is its history. The exterior incorporates hand-hewn logs salvaged from a Civil War-era cabin that stood for decades on this very site. The new home follows the original cabin’s footprint, with an additional wing designed for modern living.

Misty mornings overlooking the mirror surface of Lake Santeetlah....that's how the owners of this new custom home plan to start their days. What began as a vision now has some bones, and we're looking forward to seeing it through to final finishes and move in day!

This waterfront custom home is already taking shape, although getting to this point has taken working with some of the realities that come with building in the mountains. Once excavation started, substantial rock was found beneath the planned foundation. Some of it had to be hammered out, and the foundation footprint location was ultimately shifted a few feet to work with the site and the rock below it.

Now the foundation is in place and the framing is underway, giving the home its first real sense of scale. ZIP System sheathing is up on the lower levels, and the outline of what will eventually become a mountain lake home is becoming easier to see with each stage of construction.

Building on Lake Santeetlah means the setting is a major part of the project, but it also means the site itself has to be carefully considered at every step. From working through unexpected rock to positioning the home on the property, the goal is to make the finished home feel like it belongs exactly where it was built.

There is still a long way to go — from framing and exterior work to the interior finishes that will ultimately make this house a home. We'll share some more peeks as this project continues to take shape!

Here are a handful of finish shots from a unique construction project! Our client decided to utilize the space between their two lake homes by adding a connected pavilion with douglas fir timbers, a custom stone fireplace and a hot tub level! Talk about an epic lakeside gathering and entertainment space! We rebuilt the deteriorated decks on one house, built a timber entrance to tie it in with the pavilion, and both homes got new roofs and fresh paint!
