Feeling like a broken record, but with this heat wave I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure your roof/attic ventilation is working properly and getting good airflow.

When temperatures climb, heat and moisture can build up in the attic. That does two big things:

- It puts extra strain on your A/C, making it work harder (and often costing you more).

- It can weaken roof sheathing over time, creating soft or vulnerable areas that are more susceptible to damage from things like tree impact, snow load, and anything else that hits the roof.

Ventilation should be part of the conversation from the very start. If your roofing contractor isn’t bringing up ventilation early in the appointment, they’re not the right fit.

One sneaky sign of shingle defects is seeing a lot of granules coming out of your downspouts after a heavy rain. If you notice that, it’s worth paying attention to – it could mean your roof isn’t retaining those vital granules, which can lead to leaks and bigger problems down the line.

Another thing to keep an eye out for is shiny spots on your shingles. That reflective shine can indicate that the granules are missing and exposing the fiberglass beneath.
