Summary: You don’t need a college degree to be able to do this job. What you do need is mechanic type skills, such as you would have to repair the brakes on your car. And you need a willingness to learn new things and commit yourself to being successful. This isn’t just feeding parts into a machine and watching it spit out finished work. You have to be attentive and always looking out for the quality coming off the machine. You will “own” the machine and look after it as you would if it was indeed yours. The shop is a team effort with a great crew. We’re looking to replace a retiring machinist who has done this job for 13 years. He’s ready to pass the baton to you.
