This is a hot surface ignitor and it's one of the most common reasons furnaces stop working in the middle of winter in Rochester, NY.
Here's what I'm doing in this video:
🔧 Using a multimeter to test the ignitor
🔧 Checking for continuity if it reads OL, it's dead
🔧 A working ignitor reads between 40–200 ohms
🔧 If it fails the test it gets replaced before it fails on your tenant
Most landlords find out their ignitor is bad at 11pm in January when their tenant calls saying there's no heat.
We find it during a routine tune-up before that call ever happens.
