⚠️ A quick PSA for my friends and homeowners here in the Rochester area

A homeowner recently asked me a great question during a service visit:

“Why are so many HVAC companies getting bought out lately?”

It’s a fair question — and the truth is, it’s happening all over the country.

Large investment groups have discovered the home services industry and have started acquiring long-standing heating and cooling companies.

We’re beginning to see the same trend here in the Rochester market as well.

This isn’t automatically a bad thing. Many of these companies are professional and well run.

But it does mean the industry is changing.

Larger organizations often bring:

• Bigger marketing budgets
• Aggressive advertising and promotions
• Financing options for equipment
• Multiple home services (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)
• Structured sales systems designed to move equipment replacements

Here’s the part homeowners should understand:

In HVAC, the most important factor isn’t the brand of equipment — and it’s not the size of the company.

It’s how the system is designed and installed.

That’s especially true here in Rochester.

Many homes in our area were built between the 1920s and 1970s, which means older ductwork, undersized returns, and systems that were never designed for today’s comfort expectations.

The reality is that many heating and cooling problems aren’t equipment problems at all — they’re airflow and design problems.

I tell our clients that the brand of equipment should never be a deciding factor, and I stand by that. Why?

Because most major manufacturers today offer very similar warranty coverage: Typically a 10-year parts warranty and up to a 20-year heat exchanger warranty.

What really makes the difference is:

✔ Proper system sizing and load calculations
✔ Ductwork design and airflow balancing
✔ Humidity control
✔ Installation craftsmanship and system commissioning
✔ Accessibility for future service and maintenance
✔ Consistent annual maintenance

Those factors determine whether a system lasts less than 10 years… or 20+ years.

They also have NOTHING to do with brand and EVERYTHING to do with the value a company provides.

No matter who you hire, make sure the company focuses on building the system correctly and maintaining it properly — not just selling equipment.

Your comfort, your energy bills, and the life of your system all depend on it.

If your heating or air conditioning system failed tomorrow, what would matter most when choosing a company?

Just comment A, B, C, D, or E.

A) The lowest price possible
B)A fair price with solid work
C) A company known for reliable repairs that actually last
D) Expert advice and a long-term solution, not just a quick fix
E) The best comfort system available, even if it costs more

No right or wrong answers — I’m just curious what homeowners prioritize.

Thanks for the feedback!

As the extreme cold weather came to a rest last week, we had an unfortunate customer with an 1800s home that suffered a burst pipe.
At 89 years old, he woke up to almost 3 feet of water in parts of the basement. As you can see marked in yellow, was the waterline on the ductwork! This caused a total loss.
We had him up and running with a new furnace and water heater in a few hours. Fully commissioned for maximum efficiency.

Thank you for trusting House to Home!

❄️ 🚨Extreme Cold Weather Reminder – Rochester Area

With temperatures dipping well below zero this weekend (we’re already seeing -4°! 🥶), it’s completely normal for your heating system to work harder than usual.

You may notice:
• Longer run times
• Trouble keeping up with your thermostat setting
• Cooler air from vents than you’re used to

This doesn’t always mean something is wrong — extreme cold puts a lot of strain on HVAC equipment.

👉 That said, if your system is completely off, blowing cold air, or you have no heat at all, please don’t wait — call us for emergency service right away.

We’re here to help keep you and your family warm and safe. Stay cozy, Rochester! 🧤🔥

Chimney Liners Matter More Than You Think 🔥

When replacing a furnace or water heater, the chimney often gets overlooked — and that can be a costly (and dangerous) mistake.

Modern equipment exhausts differently than older systems. Without a properly sized chimney liner, you can end up with:
❌ Poor draft
❌ Corrosion inside the chimney
❌ Carbon monoxide spilling back into the home
❌ Reduced efficiency and premature equipment failure

A properly installed liner:
✅ Safely carries exhaust gases out of the home
✅ Protects the chimney structure
✅ Improves system performance
✅ Helps keep your family safe

It’s not an upsell — it’s part of doing the job right.

If your contractor didn’t mention the chimney, they didn’t look at the whole system.
And comfort (and safety) doesn’t come from shortcuts.

“Should I get 3 bids?”
That’s a fair question—and a smart one.

Here’s what most homeowners don’t realize:
getting multiple bids usually compares price, not value.

In HVAC work, the biggest differences aren’t the equipment brand or the headline number. They’re in the details that don’t always show up on paper:

✔️How the system is properly sized for the home (not guessed by square footage)
✔️How airflow and ductwork are evaluated and corrected
✔️How humidity, comfort, and efficiency are balanced—not just heating and cooling
✔️How potential risks and existing issues are identified before installation
✔️How the system is commissioned and tested, not just turned on
✔️How the work is supported years after install, not just on day one

Two proposals can look similar and perform very differently.

You’re always welcome to talk with other companies—we simply encourage you to compare process, documentation, and long-term reliability, not just the final price.

Price is easy to compare.
Value is built into the work you don’t see—until it matters.
