Our client had installed the cabinets, and asked us do the trim work for their kitchen remodel on their older house. We did a cornice detail with several layers. This was to make the out of level ceiling, a little less obvious. The casing and baseboards were custom milled. We also made the stained cabinet, which fits in an alcove, to match the island cabinets. Thanks to Honeoye Falls Millwork and Chris, the painter.

We did projects on two different church altars this year. In the first one, we milled components to match an existing handrail. We added a rail to each side of the front of the altar. In the other church, we built two pedestals, a shelf to hold the tabernacle, and two handrails patterned after an existing handrail. The projects were challenging. We had to deal with some core drilling in concrete (finishing up just before a special service was to start), “over the post” handrailing, and the elliptical nature of the shelf. We learned a lot, hopefully got better; and we feel blessed for having the opportunity!

This is a kitchen remodel that we put together over the winter and early spring on a split level house in Pittsford. Cherry cabinets, custom backsplash tile from England, and porcelain 1’ x 2’ floor tile in an offset bricky pattern. We had some floor leveling to do, and we had to replace a set of stairs.

We built the cabinets for this finely executed kitchen remodel by Ted Robertson of Kirkwall Construction.

We spent a good part of our fall working on a whole house renovation for a townhouse along the Erie Canal in Fairport for . The house received new nickel gap boards on the ceiling, decorative beam like rafters, a reclaimed barn beam mantle, and an all new trim package with beaded casing. We are still working on some cabinetry for it.

This is the end result of the new openings that we created at Restaurant. We had Jim Turner at Honeoye Falls Millwork make up the rosettes and casings. The first two pictures are of the newly created openings. The third picture shows the original casing that we matched.

This is the porch project that we finished over the winter. We replaced the existing flooring with new Douglas Fir. We replaced the front steps with a new set of steps and balustrade. We milled all of the new balustrade parts to match the original from Eucalyptus.

We are currently working on a really neat project. Chuck Smith of designed this collar tie truss system for this cathedral ceiling for a beautiful little house in the woods in Mendon. We are wrapping it all with ash to give it a timber frame look and feel. For once, I thought it might be good to do an in progress posting.

We have a couple of projects running concurrently. Normally we do things in a pretty linear manner; one project at a time. But the nature of these projects allows us to do a couple things at once. On the left is some vertical grain white oak which has been glued up to be jamb stock for a newly created cased opening for restaurant. It is in the middle of the finishing process. On the right is a face frame being glued onto a carcase for a whole wall bookshelf project.

I had Jim Turner of Honeoye Falls Millworks mill the column bases on his CNC machine for our porch project. He milled them out of eucalyptus. As you can see, they are receiving a coat of oil based primer before they get installed; a little extra protection for some parts that are subjected to a lot of moisture. Jim is a great tradesman and a really smart guy. He is an invaluable member of my team of trade partners.

I always enjoy it when some aspect of my work reminds me of my youth. I have about 900 linear feet of vertical grain Douglas fir porch flooring in the shop. The client wants to keep the natural look, so I am pre-treating all sides with pure tung oil and thinner. I like this finish for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is that the smell reminds me of going in to with my dad when I was a kid. There must be tung oil in marine varnish.
