Plan ahead! Looks like a hectic weekend! ❄️
~REFER TO UPDATED FORECAST~
~Major Winter Storm Friday Afternoon-Sunday~
A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall totals and major travel impacts Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night. An initial wave of accumulating snow will move through the Northern Plains Friday before gradually moving into IA after sunset Friday. The main wave of moisture will rapidly come together Friday night over these areas and gradually move east through the day Saturday. Snow is expected to fall for 18-24 hours in the heaviest areas, leading to high accumulations.
Snowfall totals of 8-12" is expected for portions of IA, MN, IL, WI, and MI. Snowfall rates will be around an inch an hour at times and snow falling for up to 24 hours will lead to a prolonged period of travel, including air travel, being affected. Snowfall totals will sharply drop on the south side because that's where the rain/snow line will be. There will likely be a sharp cutoff on the northern edge because of dry air. We will have an updated snowfall forecast this evening or tomorrow morning.
