Cloning: A Game-Changer in Cannabis Cultivation đŸŒ±âœš

At Northstar Hydro, we’re all about growing smarter and more sustainably, and one of the coolest techniques we’ve been diving into is cloning! If you’re not familiar, cloning allows growers to take a cutting from a healthy, thriving “mother” plant and grow an exact genetic replica. Why is this such a game-changer? Let’s break it down:

🌿 Consistency is Key
By cloning, we’re able to ensure that every plant carries the same incredible genetics as the original. That means if we have a mother plant with stellar terpene profiles, high yields, or disease resistance, we can replicate that over and over again.

đŸŒ± Save Time and Resources
Instead of starting from seed and waiting for plants to develop and show their traits, clones hit the ground running. They grow faster and skip the guesswork—perfect for maximizing efficiency in our grow.

♻ Sustainability at its Finest
Cloning reduces waste and ensures we’re making the most of every amazing plant we grow. No more rolling the dice on seeds that may or may not deliver—cloning is all about working smarter, not harder.

💡 Innovation Meets Nature
The process of cloning is both fascinating and empowering. It’s a testament to how we can blend natural techniques with cutting-edge cultivation methods to grow the best cannabis possible.

We’re so excited to keep exploring cloning and sharing our journey with all of you. Follow along as we take cannabis cultivation to the next level—one clone at a time!

When we talk about NoDig H&G “leave the leaves” what does that do?

Each community paves the way for the next to thrive, creating a chain reaction of habitat adaptation.
Leaf litter and humus layer boost sandy soil regeneration.
Consider this when planning your landscaping and before cleaning those garden beds.
When autumn arrives, many of us reach for our rakes to tidy up fallen leaves. However, there’s a growing movement encouraging us to “leave the leaves” instead. This simple act can have a profound impact on our gardens and the environment.
Fallen leaves create a natural mulch that helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and provide essential nutrients as they decompose. This process not only enriches the soil but also supports a diverse range of wildlife. Insects, birds, and small mammals find shelter and food in the leaf litter, promoting biodiversity.
Additionally, the humus layer formed by decomposed leaves improves soil structure and boosts sandy soil regeneration. By leaving the leaves, we can reduce the need for additional mulch and fertilizers, saving time and resources.

Dr. Bruce Bugbee, a well-known plant scientist and cannabis expert, has shared insights on the topic of flushing cannabis plants before harvest, which has stirred debate in the cultivation community. According to Dr. Bugbee, flushing—ceasing nutrient input and providing only water for a period before harvest—may not provide the benefits many growers believe it does.

-------------

Why Flushing is Not Advised:

Dr. Bugbee argues that plants don’t store excess nutrients in the way often assumed; rather, they use them actively in growth and metabolic processes. Nutrients aren’t “flushed out” simply by withholding them before harvest, and doing so can actually lead to deficiencies that may stress the plant unnecessarily. The theory that flushing improves taste or quality has limited scientific backing, and many of the perceived improvements in flavor or smoothness may be more related to proper curing and drying techniques rather than flushing.

Why Flushing May Still Be Considered:

Despite the lack of scientific support, some growers still advocate for flushing based on anecdotal experience, claiming it improves the final product’s flavor, burn quality, or smoothness. In certain cases, reducing nutrient input toward the end may be beneficial if the plants have been overfed, helping to prevent potential nutrient lockout or build-up of salts. However, this effect is less about “flushing” and more about allowing the plant to utilize what’s available in a balanced way.

--------------

In essence, while Dr. Bugbee suggests that flushing might not yield significant benefits and could even be counterproductive, the practice remains popular among some growers due to tradition and personal preference, rather than scientific evidence.

In this video, Dr. Bruce Bugbee covers the practice of flushing in cannabis cultivation, focusing on its effects on plant nutrition. Dr. Bugbee breaks down w...

7/29/2024:

Not too much work done last night!

Topped off and then replaced water in the buckets, minimal LST work (waiting one more day for the stems to grow out), and hung up the shirt that I drew out for the Frequency One festival😂 I think it looks better hanging up than it did on me lol.

Preparing to do some more LST work and clone cutting very soon!😁

Shout out to Corncob Seed Co. for the Haar seeds, and Canna Serve Ya for having them in stock! Always a great idea to support local. I’m excited to work with awesome locals peepsđŸ–€

Keep an eye out for potential upcoming crosses of the Haar👀 word on the street is that they’re going to be insane.
