🌱🍂 NEWTIER: WHAT IN THE YARD IS GOING ON?! 🍂🌱

WAIT… WINTER PREP ALREADY?! 😳❄️

We know, we know… nobody wants to hear the “W” word yet. 😂

But here in Minnesota, late summer into early fall is actually one of the most important times to prepare your lawn for next spring!

✅ FEED IT — Late summer/early fall is a great time to fertilize cool-season lawns and help strengthen roots.

🌱 SEED IT — Have thin or bare spots? Now is a great time to overseed while the soil is still warm and cooler weather is moving in.

💨 LET IT BREATHE — Compacted lawn? Fall is a great time for core aeration, especially when paired with overseeding.

✂️ DON’T SCALP IT — Keep mowing as your grass grows and avoid removing more than ⅓ of the grass blade at once.

💧 KEEP WATERING — Don’t put the hose away just yet! Lawns, trees and shrubs still need moisture heading into fall, especially during dry stretches.

🍂 DON’T LET LEAVES PILE UP — A thick layer of wet leaves can smother the grass underneath.

🌿 GET AFTER THOSE WEEDS — Fall can be a great opportunity to tackle stubborn perennial weeds before winter.

🌿❤️ The NewTier Chronicles — Episode 6: “Krista Math” 😂

Apparently there’s regular math… business math… and then there’s Krista Math. 😆

Sometimes we meet someone who simply needs a little help keeping up with their home. Maybe they’re getting older, living on a tighter budget, or the things they once did themselves have simply become a little harder.

And that’s when my calculator occasionally starts working a little differently. 😂❤️

Shane knows the look.

Georges understands it too — although between the three of us, he’s certainly been known to make a handshake deal or two himself! 🤝😂

We know NewTier is a business, and we have employees, equipment, fuel, insurance and bills just like every other small business. We can’t discount every job, and many of the projects we’re hired for are things people want rather than truly need.

But sometimes a lawn isn’t just a lawn.

For an older homeowner, having a little help mowing or maintaining their property might mean one less obstacle to continuing to live independently in the home they’ve worked so hard for.

If there’s a reasonable way for us to help, those are the jobs that remind us why we wanted NewTier to be about more than simply completing a service.

🌱 We want to build relationships.

🏡 And leave things a little better than we found them.

Because every property really does tell a story — and the people living there are the most important part of it.

🌿☀️ NEWTIER YARD TIPS — What Are YOU Seeing This Week?

📚 Backpacks are coming out, school supplies are everywhere, and summer is somehow already winding down!

Our grandkids in Virginia headed back to school today, while here around Rochester there’s still a little summer left before school starts.

And we’re guessing there are at least a FEW parents out there thinking…

“Love you kids… but we’re ready for a schedule again!” 😂🙌

Meanwhile, our Minnesota yards apparently didn’t get the back-to-school memo. 🌱

Here’s what we’re noticing lately:

🌱 GRASS GROWING LIKE CRAZY?
We’ve noticed lawns getting surprisingly long and thick between mowings. Late-summer moisture and cooler weather can keep that grass growing strong, so don’t put the mower away yet!

🪰 GNATS & FLIES DRIVING YOU NUTS?
We’ve noticed those too! Check for standing water, wet yard debris, fallen fruit, pet waste and other damp organic material. A little cleanup can sometimes make a big difference.

🦌 WHO ATE MY FLOWERS?!
Apparently the deer have decided our gardens are complimentary salad bars. 😂🌺 Protect favorite plants early and consider deer repellents or changing up deterrents before they become regular dinner guests.

🍂 AND YES… WE’VE SPOTTED SOME LEAVES.

We’re NOT declaring summer over yet! 😂 But it’s time to start thinking ahead:

🍁 Fall Cleanup Scheduling — OPEN
❄️ Snow Removal Scheduling — OPEN

Getting on the list early means one less thing to worry about when Minnesota decides to change seasons overnight. 😂

🍂 The NewTier Chronicles — Episode 5: TOO SOON?! 😂

We know, we know… IT’S STILL SUMMER! ☀️🌸

Krista is still happily playing in the flower beds…

Meanwhile, Shane spots ONE LEAF on the ground and suddenly:

🚨 “IT HAS BEGUN.” 🚨 😂

And of course Georges has already done the math…

🍁 One leaf today.
🍁 47,382 tomorrow.

Apparently we’d better get the equipment ready. 😂

All joking aside, summer sure has flown by, and before we know it those beautiful Minnesota trees are going to start dropping their leaves.

NewTier is now scheduling FALL CLEANUPS! 🍂

We can help with leaf and yard cleanup, landscape and garden bed cleanup, end-of-season trimming, and getting your property cleaned up and ready for winter.

And while none of us really want to say the “S” word yet… ❄️😬

We’re also starting to schedule SNOW REMOVAL for the upcoming season!

Our regular Quality Control Supervisor, Braxton, may be back home in Virginia, but don’t worry—his clipboard is reserved until next summer. ❤️

Missing Mom a little extra today. ❤️

Not really sure why—some days just hit a little differently than others.

So on this rainy day today I pulled out her old recipe boxes and decided to make a couple of her famous salads for the family. Seeing her handwriting and going through all these old recipes brings back so many memories. Some of these cards even have recipes and handwriting passed down from generations before her.

Mom was such an amazing cook and baker, and food was one of the many ways she loved and cared for her family. I’m so thankful we still have these little pieces of her to hold onto and pass down.

I miss you, Mom. I love you. ❤️
Today we’ll have a little taste of you at the table with us. 🥰

Hasn’t this last week of cooler weather been a blessing? 🌤️

As much as we’ve enjoyed the break from the heat, it’s also a reminder that another season is just around the corner.

Before we know it…

🌱 🌿 The NewTier Chronicles –
Episode 3: Quality Never Takes a Vacation 🐸

One of the greatest gifts this summer wasn’t just the work we accomplished—it was the time we shared together.

Over the past several weeks, Gramps Shane intentionally took the time to teach Braxton lessons that go far beyond landscaping. He showed him that earning a customer’s trust is every bit as important as earning a paycheck.

From offering a firm handshake and looking customers in the eye, to listening with respect, asking thoughtful questions, working hard even when no one is watching, and always doing the job right—Braxton embraced every opportunity to learn and grow even thru all the frustrations and challenges that came along.

We watched him face fears, step outside his comfort zone, and grow into a more confident young man with each passing week. His confidence didn’t come overnight; it came one conversation, one challenge, and one job well done at a time.

Those are lessons that will stay with him long after the lawns have been mowed and the flower beds have been planted, and we couldn’t be more proud of the young man he’s becoming.

Watching Gramps and grandson work side by side this summer was a reminder that the greatest things we build aren’t always landscapes. Sometimes we’re helping build character, confidence, integrity, and a servant’s heart that can last a lifetime.

At NewTier, we believe every property tells a story—but sometimes the most meaningful stories are the people who grow alongside the work.

❤️✈️🌿 The NewTier Chronicles – Episode 2: Leaving Today

Today was one of those days that reminds you how precious time really is.

This morning, our Quality Control Supervisor, Braxton, is gearing up to board his plane in Minnesota to fly back home to Virginia, where his mom, dad, two sisters, and little brother were waiting to welcome him home.

It’s hard to believe that two months have already come and gone.

This summer wasn’t just about helping Grandma and Grandpa with landscaping. It was about fishing, camping, finding toads, learning new skills, trying new things, facing fears, building confidence, and sharing countless laughs along the way.

Watching Braxton grow this summer reminded us that the greatest thing we can build isn’t a beautiful landscape…

It’s people.

One of the dreams God has placed on our hearts is to someday start a youth mentorship program called Raising Disciples.

Our hope is to help young people discover the value of hard work, serving others, learning practical life skills, and giving back to their communities through lawn care, landscaping, handyman projects, and helping neighbors in need.

If we can help even one young person discover their purpose, grow in confidence, and realize they can make a difference in someone else’s life, then every effort will be worth it.

Braxton, thank you for an unforgettable summer.

We are incredibly proud of the young man you are becoming, and we can’t wait until next summer when our Quality Control Supervisor reports back for duty.
