This popped up in my snap memories from several years ago. This house has recently changed hands and I was in it to assess the HVAC situation. I've gone back and forth on making this post as it's not really any of my business what you do inside your own home.
However, our main focus in this field is to provide clean, efficient, and comfortable air to you in your home, for as long as we can make equipment reasonably run. Whatever was going on in here was clearly sticking to the walls, and everything else inside the home; furniture, floors, appliances, the cat, etc. This also includes the air filter, blower wheel, furnace heat exchanger, and the fins on the A- coil. The inner surfaces of the all of the ductwork are also coated. The sticky residue then traps and holds dust, dirt, and dander. That all adds up to a definite reduction to the all categories listed in the first sentence of this paragraph.
While this house was a result of cigarette smoke, I should point out that excessive candle burning or poorly vented wood burning fireplaces can have some of the same consequences, though to a lesser extent.
