Labor Day weekend already?!

Speaking of labor, check out this very recent full tear out and redo. Short, old, dingy basements/crawlspaces can be a real challenge and they never turn out as clean looking as I'd like. 😕 Regardless, this thing moves some air now!

Modern central air systems require 2-3 times the air movement of the early heat only forced air furnaces. All of the electronics on board are also far less resilient. That combination means you pretty much have to redo the duct or suffer poor performance and efficiency for the entirety of the new system's shortened life span.

We didn't want to crawl into those spaces and the homeowner didn't want to have to pay for it. It still had to be done. So we did it!

Hot enough for ya?! It looks like we've got several more days of it left. You and your a/c are no doubt getting tired of it. I know we are! We're running nonstop trying to get as many going as we can and still try to meet some of our other scheduled project deadlines. It can be a LOT!

That being said, if we show up and see a new a/c that we didn't install sitting where there had been an old a/c the last time we were there for you, we are going head on to the next call.

There is a long list of legitimate reasons why, and honestly a petty one or two as well. A good synopsis of them is that we can only get to so many and our loyal costumers are priority #1!

I cannot say it enough, you are not just buying an appliance.

Finished up this new install earlier this summer. It is one of those that has a solid beam running the full length of the house. They're most common in Heritage Homes other types of modular construction. This one happens to have been a standard stick build on-site.

This type of structure is not an excuse to string flex all over the place. As you can see, we hard ducted and piped it all. Everything kept tight, centered, and tucked up out of the way as much as possible.

The HVAC system is a sizable portion of a new build budget and the duct will be there for the life of the home. The check for that proper initial install only hurts that one time. A poor install will hurt everyday. Don't cuss yourself for choosing the cheaper company your buddy told you about with the trailer load of flex duct.

"What the Hell is he doing now?!"

I'm not sure either. We'll see how it turns out.

If you can't buy what you need, you've gotta do something!

Nothing like installing new duct in an attic on a hot August morning!

Right now they're putting on gasketed take-offs and sealing them additionally with duct sealant. Next they'll be wrapping it all in some fiberglass insulation. Then some hard pipe runs, sleeved with more fiberglass insulation. Sound like fun?

I'll tell ya, it's not. It will be worth it when it's done though!

Bonus: People pay good money at a spa to sit in a sauna. We get paid to do it! 😆

Edit: They had no idea what I was up to. Straight up caught them in the act of working.

Saturday morning, first of the month fun!? A whole stack of "I know it's after hours...; Could you PLEASE...; I get paid next week..." Definitely one of the more unpleasant sides of business. A few of these are genuine oops, most of them are not.

Now off to test fire a couple of furnaces on this first day of August!
