Opening Day for Oggi Gelato in Montclair!

Some projects look straightforward on paper. Others remind you why experience, flexibility, and problem-solving are just as important as the installation itself.

Oggi Gelato was one of those projects.

From the beginning, this wasn’t your typical commercial fit-out.

The architectural plans were prepared in Italy, bringing a different approach to drawings and specifications that didn’t always translate seamlessly to American construction practices.

Specialized gelato equipment was imported directly from Italy, sometimes arriving with very little notice or opportunity to coordinate installation requirements. We worked across time zones with the Italian team to make sure everything came together.

Then came the bigger challenges.

The building’s existing electrical service couldn’t support the full equipment load. A permanent upgrade meant navigating underground utility infrastructure, road-opening requirements, and a lengthy coordination process that threatened to delay the opening.

Rather than let that stop the project, we worked through an engineered temporary electrical configuration that allows Oggi to operate while the permanent upgrade is pursued.

Along the way, we navigated delayed lighting packages, last-minute design changes, unexpected equipment requirements, and a few delivery surprises right down to the finish line.

Plenty of challenges behind the scenes. But from start to finish, one goal: keep the project moving and get the doors open.

That’s something we take pride in at Sperry Electric.

We’re not just there to install what’s on the plans. We’re there to coordinate, adapt, solve problems, and see the project through.

Congratulations to the Oggi Gelato team on their grand opening! We’re proud to have helped bring a little piece of Italy to Montclair.

And after everything that went into this one, I think we’ve earned some gelato.

Another project moving right along!

Sperry Electric has completed the electrical rough-in for The Tox in downtown Morristown, NJ!

With our rough-in work behind us, we’re waiting on drywall before heading back to begin the electrical finishes and bring everything together.

We’re excited to be part of another tenant fit-out right here in Morris County and look forward to seeing this space come to life.

Stay tuned for the finished product!

End of the road for this one.

Today we officially retired the first Sperry Electric van.

It definitely didn’t look like much by the end, but this van was there when the company was just getting started. Before the bigger jobs, before the growing crew and before there was a fleet of trucks on the road, there was this van.

It carried a lot of tools, a lot of material, and probably more weight than it ever should have. More importantly, it helped build the foundation for what Sperry Electric has become today.

It’s easy to get caught up looking at where you’re trying to go and forget where you started.

This one earned its retirement.

Another one across the finish line.

Sperry Electric recently completed the electrical fit out for Vault Aesthetics in East Hanover, NJ.

From general power and lighting to the decorative fixtures and finishing touches throughout the space, our team worked to bring the electrical side of the project together and deliver a clean finished product.

A little brighter at the Rockaway Firehouse.

Our team recently completed a lighting upgrade throughout the apparatus bays, replacing the existing fixtures with new LED lighting to provide a brighter, cleaner and more efficient workspace for the department.

As a Rockaway-based company, projects close to home always mean a little more to us. We’re proud to help improve the facility that serves our local firefighters and the community they protect.

Sometimes you just have to figure it out.

Oggi Gelato needed a temporary power solution to get their new location open while a permanent service upgrade works its way through utility coordination and road-opening permits.

The engineered solution called for a double-throw switch allowing them to alternate between their day and night loads. We ordered the gear six weeks ago and were supposed to have the switch yesterday.

Instead, we got a call today. Manufacturer delay, another 1–2 weeks.

Final inspection is tomorrow.

Nobody had the switch in stock, so we started getting creative. Eventually, a friend in the industry had a 200A manual generator transfer switch sitting on the shelf. Not what the design called for but electrically, we realized we could configure it to accomplish the same function.

A late night later, it’s installed, operational, and ready for inspection.

That’s what we do here. Figure it out.

Oggi Gelato at 40 Church St in Montclair is getting close! Their grand opening is scheduled for 10/10/26, and we’re right on track with our partners at Schwabe Contracting to get them across the finish line.

Sperry Electric has been handling the electrical package on this project, and it’s been great watching the space come together from rough construction to what you see today.

Looking forward to wrapping this one up and seeing Oggi open its doors in Montclair!
