The garden has been neglected for weeks and the posts have been sparse. Life has been busy. Thanks to my wife's support and understanding that I needed support to get past the overwhelm, I spent 6 hours today filling garbage can after garbage can with w**ds. The advantage to letting them grow 7' tall is you don't have to bend over as much to pull them!

Lots of watering today, if you are dry like us go run your sprinklers, you don't want to end the season dry.

Hey all, if you're like me then you have been neglecting your garden (if you are dry like us then go water!) I have had very little time and the little time I have had for myself in the evening, I have been relaxing trying out my new drum. Still A LOT to learn and really need to figure out how to mic cause it is so much richer and better in person.

Not complaining about the rain because tomorrows task is some major w**d pulling and the rain is certainly gonna help!

When you are here in Rockford next July 7-10 for the Midwest Regional Hosta Society convention, make sure you take time to go enjoy Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. Our Rockford Park District does an incredible job with their free garden (very small fee for the conservatory).

Today would have been my mother-in-law's 79th birthday, so we went to dinner. Ice cream and then took a walk through the gardens. It was a good night to give thanks for one of the people that helped me fall in love with gardening.

Ok, I need ideas! When we moved here in 2015 there was one very small area of grass and then just overgrown woods (like what is still in the back on the other side of the creek). I had started to add some gardenish space as I put in rows of hosta. Then, in 2021 we needed a whole new septic system (and added the pool). I had to cut down hundreds of trees for the new septic lines and switched to adding the garden area. I can't keep up with the w**ds in the garden beds BUT the area behind the garden beds is now just w**ds that I let grow to about 4' tall and then mow down a few times a season. It is A LOT of work and it doesn't look great, BUT...I don't know what to do other than add more garden beds...I need ideas...

Oh my goodness, Barack and Michelle invited us to come spend the day at Martha's Vineyard. We flew into Boston, headed into Rhode Island and then to Cape Cod before enjoying today on Martha's Vineyard. I am loving (and jealous of) all the hydrangeas, hardy hibiscus, rose of Sharon, and so much more! My family has not yet let me stop at a nursery but I am hoping to hit Cochato nursery on the way back to the airport.

Someday I will find time to get out and enjoy my neglected garden again...life has been a bit hectic the past few weeks....

Someday I will find time to get out and enjoy my neglected garden again...life has been a bit hectic the past few weeks. Too much summer fun and work both getting in the way of the garden time!
