‘Tis the season!

Annual Spring water main flushing is underway. The operators here are following an engineered flushing plan that ensures every foot of water main is flushed at the proper scouring velocity. Specific hydrants are opened for a calculated amount of time in order to flush 2.5 times the volume of water out of the hydrant that the targeted water main holds.
Operators also perform monthly flushing of dead end water mains throughout the year as a form of preventative maintenance.

IAI’s ETS Group hosted 49 4th grade girls at Kenowa Hills Central Elementary school today, in an early celebration of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (actually not until later this month)
The girls got to see wastewater microbes under a microscope, build a simple water filter, learn how a community water system works through a scale model, and interpret an engineering drawing. They were given a goody bag at the end of the program with fun stickers, a tumbler & smarties candy. We hope the girls will be inspired to consider an engineering career someday! Engineer like a girl!
