That should work for an emergency exit. IL code minimum is a hole 20x24 inches. Yikes. This window egress is 40x32

A doozy of a job...

For a while, homes were built, chimney first, then the rest of the structure. We were called out to look at some foundation repairs on a soon to be rented property. The chimney in the basement stood out as a problem though. It was obviously failing; held together with angle iron and ratchet straps.

I've never seen this problem and neither had my go-tos for advice. ...so, focus on the solution, not the problem. A lot was learned on this one and hopefully, the investor appreciates all what was gone through on this. The bid was terrible, but I told them we'd get it done. It took much longer than thought.

One specific part was one of the scariest things I've done in construction. If you know me, you know thats not said lightly. In fact, I had someone elsewhere on the phone, in case of emergency. Thankfully, nothing bad happened and the job is completed.
