Do you actually know why we celebrate Labor Day❓

Most people don’t 🤷‍♂️

For most of us, it’s just a day off. A long weekend. Maybe a BBQ. Maybe a mattress sale.

But Labor Day came from working people fighting for something we now consider basic.

In the late 1800s, factory workers were putting in brutal hours, working in dangerous conditions, and even children were working alongside them. Workers organized, walked off the job, and fought for better conditions and shorter hours.

Some paid for that fight with their lives.

In the Northeast Ohio roofing industry, There are good seasons. Brutal seasons. And the guys who show up either way 🛠️

My crews gets on roofs in the July heat and we’re also out on the February cold doing work most people will never do once in their life.

So today, I’m not thinking about the long weekend and the extra day off.

I’m thinking about the people who build, repair, lift, carry, climb, weld, haul, and do the work that keeps this country moving 🇺🇸

The people who get up and go to work whether anyone notices or not 💪

That’s what Labor Day means to me.

To every guy who’s ever swung a hammer, carried shingles up a ladder, worked through the heat, fought through the cold, or done a job most people wouldn’t last a day doing—

Happy Labor Day. This one’s for you 🍻

Why can’t we add an 11th layer? 🤷‍♂️

First of all, it’s against building code to go beyond 2 layers. When the top layer inevitably fails, the leaky water will slosh around on those other 10 layers and create a cesspool of rotted materials. This is the breeding ground for mold.

Each layer you add lasts less and less time before you have to address the issue again.
