What happens if you DON'T check it before you wreck it?
Think of it a little like not paying your taxes. You might save money in the moment—but if you get caught later, it's probably going to cost you much more.
The same can happen when asbestos is overlooked before a demolition project.
If you test the building materials before demolition, you know what you're dealing with. Maybe there's only a small amount of asbestos-containing material, and abatement can be planned and priced based on the actual scope of work.
But if demolition starts without checking—and asbestos-containing material is discovered after the fact—you may have a much bigger problem.
Once asbestos-containing materials have been improperly disturbed, the response can involve stopping work, evaluating the affected areas, cleaning up contaminated debris, and addressing materials that may now be impacted. What could have been a small, planned abatement project can quickly become a costly cleanup.
The cheapest time to deal with asbestos is before you start tearing things apart.
Don't gamble on what might be inside a building.
Check it before you wreck it.
