**🚨 Home Repair Scam Warning for Our Neighbors 🚨**
We recently had a customer in our area get scammed by someone claiming they could handle home repair work — and y’all, it makes us sick.
The BBB warns homeowners to be cautious with home improvement scams. These scams can show up as a knock at the door, a flyer, a cheap “too good to be true” price, someone saying they have leftover materials, or a person pressuring you to make a fast decision. Sometimes they ask for cash up front, start the job and “find” more expensive problems, or take a deposit and disappear.
Before you hire **HVAC, plumbing, or any home improvement contractor**, please protect yourself:
✅ Ask if they are **licensed, bonded, and insured**
✅ Ask for their **license number** — and actually check it
✅ Be cautious with cash-only deals
✅ Don’t let anyone pressure you into a quick decision
✅ Ask for references and reviews
✅ Make sure you get a written estimate or contract
✅ Verify permits, inspections, materials, and who is responsible for what
In Arkansas, properly licensed contractors are required to display their license number where customers can see it.
**For example, licensed plumbers and HVACR contractors in Arkansas are required to display their license number on business vehicles and in advertising. Residential contractors also have license display requirements for job-site signage. **
So yes — check their trucks, signage, website, page, estimate, and paperwork. If you can’t find a license number, that’s a red flag worth slowing down for.
You can also contact the **Better Business Bureau Serving Arkansas** to check out a business before hiring them:

A good contractor won’t be offended by questions. A good contractor will explain the scope, pricing, materials, timeline, licensing, insurance, and possible changes before work begins.
