At Douglas County Refrigeration we are taking this long weekend to reflect on the past year. We would like to thank all of our loyal customers, past, present, and future for supporting us through a challenging year, to say the least. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish a prosperous new year for each and every one of you. Without you supporting us, we wouldn't be here, and we are truly blessed and humbled by the trust you place in us every time you call. Thank you.

Second opinions.... we all need one at some point. We have no problems getting a second opinion on our health care or on our vehicle, so why not our home/office comfort systems?

I got called out on a second opinion call today. The client had no heat. Called out a different company last night. They condemned her furnace, disabled it. Told her it was shot, heat exchanger was no good anymore... on a 16 year old gas furnace.

I showed up, crawled up in the attic. Saw the gas line was turned off. Found the gas valve switched off, found a drain hose disconnected, and a vacuum switch hose also pulled off. I reconnected the hoses, turned on the gas, and started the furnace. Guess what? It ran. Ran for 10 minutes then I could hear the gurgle of backed up condensation. Shut the furnace down. Pulled the drain line off and cleaned out the blockage. Reassembled and ran the system. Checked for carbon monoxide in the house....0 ppm. The furnace works perfectly. They left the lady without heat last night and today...

This isn't the first time I've given a second opinion this month, or this week. When you call for service, ask if their technician is a Journeyman, with an Oregon HVAC/R Journeyman card. I bet they can't say they have one....it's rare here, but I have one. I spent a lot of time earning it too.

When you take your vehicle to the shop do you want the master mechanic diagnosing the engine issue, or do you want the l**e tech doing it? Obviously we want the master mechanic doing the work. Same principle here. If you think you can do without your heat, turn it off for the weekend, just use a small space heater, then let me know how important a functioning heating system is to you.

As technicians we all make a mistake every once in a while, so sometimes a second opinion isn't such a bad idea. Yes, it will probably cost you another diagnostic fee, but wouldn't that be better than spending a few thousand for a new heating and cooling system?

With the normal cold and flu season here, in addition to the Corona virus, it is time to have an annual maintenance performed on your home or office heating system. Get that system professionally cleaned and serviced. It would also be a great time to look into installing a new Indoor Air Quality product like the new iWave Ion generator. iWave has units that can be installed in ductless units as well as traditional ducted heating and air conditioning systems.

iWave is an air purifying device that installs in any duct air conditioning system. When air passes over the iWave, ions produced by the device reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts.

iWave uses patented technology, called needle-point bi-polar ionization, to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions are injected into the air stream, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water v***r.

When the ions come in contact with viruses, bacteria or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules – without them, the pathogens have no source of energy and will die. The ions also attach to allergens like pollen and other particles, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by your ventilation system’s air filter.

iWave’s technology generates the same ions that nature creates with lightening, waterfalls, ocean waves, etc. Nature uses energy and shear to break apart molecules, naturally cleaning the air and producing a healthy environment. The only difference between the iWave’s technology and nature is that the iWave does it without developing harmful ozone.

iWave air purifiers have no harmful byproducts, and most models require no ongoing maintenance and have no replacement parts. In fact, with the iWave-R’s patent-pending self-cleaning design, you can enjoy years of maintenance-free performance.

Nu-Calgon offers a three-year limited warranty on iWave products. For a valid warranty claim within three years, proof of purchase and proof of installation by a licensed HVAC or electrical contractor must be provided.

Contact us today at (541)672-7207 to schedule your annual maintenance and to see about having an iWave installed at your home or business.
