⚡ Things your electrician wishes you’d stop plugging into an extension cord…

❌ Window & portable AC units
❌ Space heaters
❌ Refrigerators & freezers
❌ Microwaves & other high-powered appliances
❌ Another extension cord 😬

Extension cords are meant for temporary use, and high-powered appliances can overload them, causing overheating and creating a fire hazard.

If you’re constantly reaching for an extension cord because you don’t have an outlet where you need one, it might be time to add one. 😉

⚡ MONDAY ELECTRICAL MYTH

“The breaker keeps tripping… I’ll just reset it again.”

A breaker that repeatedly trips is trying to tell you something. Overloaded circuits, faulty appliances, damaged wiring, or other electrical issues could be the cause.

Resetting it might get the power back on but it doesn’t fix the problem.

🔌 If it keeps tripping, get it checked.

⚡ Why are there so many power outages lately?

If it feels like the lights have been going out more often across New Jersey, you’re not imagining it.

The combination of extreme heat, strong winds, and severe thunderstorms puts tremendous stress on the electrical grid.

Here’s what happens:
🌡️ Extreme heat increases electricity demand as everyone runs air conditioning, causing transformers to work much harder.
💨 High winds bring down tree limbs and power lines.
⛈️ Storms and lightning can damage transformers and other utility equipment, sometimes resulting in the loud “boom” many people hear before losing power.

This past week has been a perfect storm of all three, keeping utility crews working around the clock to restore service across the state. (PSE&G)

A few tips during outages:
✔️ Stay away from downed power lines, they may still be energized.
✔️ Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from power surges when service returns.
✔️ Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
✔️ If you’re relying on a generator, always operate it outdoors and away from windows.

At MPower Electrical Contractor, we’re wishing everyone a safe week and a quick restoration for anyone still without power. Stay cool, stay safe, and if you have electrical concerns after the storms pass, we’re here to help.

🔥 Extreme Heat = Extra Stress on Your Home’s Electrical System ☀️

When temperatures soar, your electrical system works overtime to keep you cool. Here are a few ways to stay safe during a heat wave:

⚡ Avoid plugging multiple high-powered appliances into the same outlet or power strip.
❄️ Give your air conditioner its own dedicated circuit whenever possible.
🔌 If your lights flicker, breakers trip, or outlets feel warm, don’t ignore it, those can be signs your electrical system is overloaded.
🌳 Keep the area around your outdoor A/C unit clear to help it run efficiently.
🏠 If your home has an older electrical panel, consider having it inspected before peak summer demand.

Don’t wait until you’re left without power on the hottest day of the year. A quick inspection today could help prevent costly repairs tomorrow.

Need an electrical inspection or panel upgrade? MPower Electrical Contractor LLC is here to help.

🇺🇸 Backyard Party Ready?

Hosting friends and family this 4th of July?

Before the burgers hit the grill, take a quick look around:

🔌 Outdoor outlets have covers
💡 Patio lights aren’t hanging from damaged cords
🌧️ Extension cord connections are protected from the weather
⚡ GFCI outlets are working properly

A few minutes now can help avoid electrical headaches during the party.

⚡ Electrical Fact of the Day ⚡

🌩️ A single lightning bolt can heat the air around it to about 50,000°F.

That’s roughly five times hotter than the surface of the sun.

If lightning strikes near your home, it can send a massive power surge through electrical systems.

That’s why whole-home surge protection isn’t just for storms, it’s protection for your electronics too.
