⚡ Why are there so many power outages lately?
If it feels like the lights have been going out more often across New Jersey, you’re not imagining it.
The combination of extreme heat, strong winds, and severe thunderstorms puts tremendous stress on the electrical grid.
Here’s what happens:
🌡️ Extreme heat increases electricity demand as everyone runs air conditioning, causing transformers to work much harder.
💨 High winds bring down tree limbs and power lines.
⛈️ Storms and lightning can damage transformers and other utility equipment, sometimes resulting in the loud “boom” many people hear before losing power.
This past week has been a perfect storm of all three, keeping utility crews working around the clock to restore service across the state. (PSE&G)
A few tips during outages:
✔️ Stay away from downed power lines, they may still be energized.
✔️ Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from power surges when service returns.
✔️ Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
✔️ If you’re relying on a generator, always operate it outdoors and away from windows.
At MPower Electrical Contractor, we’re wishing everyone a safe week and a quick restoration for anyone still without power. Stay cool, stay safe, and if you have electrical concerns after the storms pass, we’re here to help.
