Not every moment needs to be productive.

Sometimes it’s nice to just sit for a minute, watch the clouds roll by, notice the flowers moving in the breeze, and remember that the world keeps doing its thing whether we’re rushing around or not.

Take a minute. Look around. Enjoy where you are.

After all… No matter where you are, you’re always at Nature's Doorstep. 🌿

Spotted a Common Nighthawk cruising the evening sky! 🌙🐦

Despite the name, nighthawks aren’t actually hawks. They’re insectivores (insect-eating) birds that catch their meals right out of the air, feeding on moths, beetles, mosquitoes, and other flying insects.

They can be easy to overlook, but once you know what to look and listen for, you might be surprised how often they’re flying right above you.

Just another reminder that no matter where you are, you’re always at Nature’s Doorstep. 🌿

When I am outside, I am at peace… The world slows down and I feel connected with everything around me. It’s important to be observant, curious, and respectful as we all share this beautiful earth.

Here’s a beautiful snail that I had the privilege to say hello to during my walk this morning.

One of the most successful wildlife management stories in Ohio is the one of the wild turkey!
Due to deforestation and urbanization during colonization, the turkey population was extirpated.
Wildlife management efforts were started and the first season was opened in southeastern Ohio in the 60s and the first wild turkey taken during the hunting season is mounted at Hocking College. If memory serves, it was taken in 1965?!
Combined efforts through Ohio division of wildlife and national wild Turkey Federation chapters throughout Ohio have helped with this effort. Turkeys were released in certain areas by the NWTF chapters to put on controlled hunts, but in return these turkeys that were not harvested, would then go off and create populations and with the wildlife management side of the Ohio division of natural resources we now have a turkey populations expanding.

This turkey found its way near our property by following the creek/river and has now found a perfect spot to set up shop. Having no turkey in Northwest Ohio to now having one that lives next door is amazing!! it may not be as heroic as the bald eagle wildlife management success story, but let this be a great lesson for those that have them in their backyard because this for sure is what it means to always be at Nature's Doorstep!
