Buyers Remorse Hits Virginia Hard

Abigail Spanberger sold herself as a moderate Democrat who would bring common sense to Richmond. Virginians bought it, handing her a solid 57 percent win over Republican Winsome Earle-Sears last November and making her the state's first female governor.

Eighty days later, the buyers remorse is already setting in big time.

A fresh Washington Post-Schar School poll puts Spanberger's approval at a pathetic 47 percent approve, 46 percent disapprove. That's the worst early-term rating for any Virginia governor in the 21st century, and a whopping 13 points below the average for new governors.

Voters are waking up fast to the usual Democrat agenda: exploding costs for housing, healthcare, and daily life; creeping tax hikes; and soft policies on immigration and border chaos. Strong disapproval is at 38 percent, with plenty of her own voters already turning sour.

The ex-CIA officer and former congresswoman ran as a pragmatic centrist. Turns out that was just code for the same old big-government failures that make life more expensive and frustrating.

Virginia swung left in 2025 and is now getting exactly what it voted for. Spanberger's lightning-fast collapse should be a loud wake-up call for every swing state: so-called moderate Democrats deliver the same destructive results, just with a friendlier smile.

The honeymoon never started. Buyers remorse is here, and the price tag is climbing every day.

BEARING FRUIT – HOW GOD DOES IT
Bryant Wright, Founder

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” John 15:1

In Chapter 15 of the Gospel of John, Jesus uses an agricultural allegory to explain how his followers are to bear spiritual fruit.

First, let’s define what we mean by spiritual fruit. Ultimately, it is becoming more like Jesus and making disciples. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” In addition, spiritual fruit refers to the people who come to know Jesus through our laboring for the Gospel.

Now that we understand what spiritual fruit is, how do we bring it about in our lives?

This is the beautiful part: We don’t!

Our role is to abide. God’s role is to bring about fruit.

In John 15:1, Jesus explains that He is the Vine and God is the Vinedresser. Later on in the chapter, we are referred to as branches. Branches cannot bear fruit if they aren’t connected to the Vine. Jesus is saying that our spiritual fruit can only come through Him.

He also talks about God as the Vinedresser or Gardener. He has two roles: to prune branches that bear fruit and to cut away dead branches. Gardeners will prune fruit-bearing branches to increase their yield in the coming seasons. God does this in our lives, too. This pruning process can often be painful and uncomfortable. It involves the cutting away of habits and thoughts that do not align with God. The good news is that God’s pruning is always done with care and precision, and He does so to produce more fruit.

His second job is to cut away dead branches. This can refer to people who don’t truly know Christ. They may profess to be believers, but their lives have no likeness to God’s. In other words, they are not bearing any fruit.

If your life is not bearing fruit, you may want to question your connection to the Vine.

Pruning is a painful process and often feels uncomfortable. Nonetheless, it is necessary for our spiritual health.

Is there anything in your life that needs to be cut back?

Whatever it is, spend some time in prayer. Ask God to make you more like Him.

Stay tuned for more on spiritual fruits tomorrow!

Happy Easter! “He Has Risen”

ALL THOSE OPPOSED: SOLDIERS
Bryant, Wright, Founder

“The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort.” Mark 15:16

These Roman soldiers were not emotional men. They were hardened. Battle-tested. Crucifixion was part of the job. They mocked Jesus, pressed a crown of thorns into His head, struck Him again and again, spat on Him, and sarcastically bowed, “Hail, King of the Jews!” To them, He was just another condemned prisoner.

But this was no ordinary man.

Now think about this for a moment. Jesus had already been scourged—39 lashes that ripped flesh from bone. Then came the spikes. And historians tell us it often took several strong soldiers to hold a man down while the nails were driven in. Yet I can’t help but picture Jesus lying down willingly. No resistance. No curses. No threats.

Why? Because this is why He came.

At noon, darkness covered the land. For three hours, the Son of God bore the weight of our sin. And when He cried, “It is finished,” that was not defeat. That was victory. The debt was paid. He was the perfect sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty we should pay for our sins.

Now don’t miss this. The very soldiers who mocked Him saw the way He died. And the centurion, the leader among them, declared, “Truly this man was the Son of God” (Mark 15:39).

The cross always reveals the heart. Some oppose. Some mock. Some walk away.

And some believe.

The most loving act ever done for you was not performed in comfort. It happened on a cross.

So the question is—what will you do with Jesus? Put your trust in Him!
