That large GE (Edison Electric Company) sign shined over my hometown, “the city that lights the world” Schenectady NY. There was a day it shined brighter than the others and I decided I wanted to know all there is to know about electricity. One day I drove a shovel through an underground wire feeding an outdoor light while working for a landscaping company. Everyday I would take a bus, get a ride
or walk/bike to do landscaping work. Along the path I would always pass a tall perfectly square building that had a large sign with a picture of a hand holding a lightning bolt. It wasn’t until the day I drove a shovel through an underground wire where a homeowner wanted a tree planted that I realized there was a skilled trade that specialized in all things electrical, and my hunger grew to learn everything I can. (Over 10 yrs ago) On my way to work I stopped at that square building and read the Lightning bolt sign “International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers”. I went through the process of joining the electrical union apprenticeship. I worked with many contractors on different projects. I took on some non union opportunities in maintenance roles, service roles and YES I even got a chance to work with GE in a field service role! Since moving to Greenville SC the last couple of years I did field service work for Square D (Schneider Electric) and embraced the opportunity to visit many industrial/commercial plants and businesses traveling to almost every corner of South Carolina. Presently, I stepped away from traveling, although it was nice seeing many different states in the US. I need/want to stay local, and serve in my community. Be present and available for my wife and our 4 beautiful children. I continue to learn everything I can about electricity, I recently earned a SC license by examination and work experience. I work with a local contractor who has been working in the community for over 20 years, learning business and different solutions to provide for homeowners on bringing their equipment up to code and safe, while working around their budget. I’m happy to serve in Upstate NY I hope to help you soon.
